Eurocup gets into full swing with 18 games in Regular Season Round 3. There is a growing sense of must-win pressure for some team without victories yet, while eight unbeaten clubs have chances to grab control of their respective groups with their third wins in as many games. The action starts with three games on Tuesday, while the remaining 15 games are slated for Wednesday.

GROUP A

On Tuesday, EWE Baskets Oldenburg (0-2) plays it first home game of the season, welcoming Dominion Bilbao Basket (1-1). Oldenburg has a 5-5 record on its home floor over the past two seasons. One of those victories wins came against Bilbao in 2013-14, when the teams split regular season home wins. Oldenburg must beware of a Bilbao defense that forces a league-high 20 turnovers per game so far. In two games on Wednesday, Union Olimpija Telekom (1-1) hosts Telekom Baskets Bonn (1-1) in the first meeting ever between those two sides. Bonn is winless in four meetings against Slovenian teams this century, and Olimpija hopes to extend that streak. Dolomiti Energia Trento (1-1) plays host to the group leader JSF Nanterre (2-0) in another first encounter. Trento registered its first Eurocup win ever one week ago, and now aims to protect its home floor again.

GROUP B

Last season's Eurocup runner-up, Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas (2-0), welcomes Enel Basket Brindisi (0-2) to town on Tuesday. The hosts have knocked down 24 triples through the first two games, the most of all Eurocup teams so far this season, and aim to continue with success at home, where they have won 16 of their last 17 Eurocup games dating back to early 2011. Wednesday brings a pair of matchups between four teams tied in the middle of the standings. MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg (1-1) plays at home against Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia (1-1) for the first time ever. In a showdown of two classic Eurocup teams, Le Mans Sarthe Basket (1-1) hosts ALBA Berlin (1-1) and the Round 2 MVP Dragan Milosavljevic. The two sides have not met since 2009-10 season, when they played each other four times, and ALBA won three of those. Le Mans has the Eurocup's highest three-point shooting accuracy, 48.6%, going into Round 3.

GROUP C

In the only battle of unbeaten teams this week, ratiopharm Ulm (2-0) hosts Valencia Basket (2-0) in Group C's lone Tuesday game. The two team splayed during the regular season two years ago, splitting home wins. Valencia enters this game as the competition's second-ranked defense, while the hosts have sixth-best scoring so far. SLUC Nancy (0-2) welcomes CAI Zaragoza (1-1) in an early must-win game for the home side, which has done well against Spanish opponents in the past four years, winning four in a row before losing its last two decisions, against Valencia. In another first official meeting, newcomer Umana Reyer Venice (1-1) is at home against Proximus Spirou Charleroi (0-2). The visitors come into the contest with a 2-12 record away from home during the past three Eurocup campaigns.

GROUP D

Eurocup newcomer Trabzonspor Medical Park (1-1) hosts Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (1-1) in an intriguing encounter of two teams meeting for the first time ever. Historically, Buducnost has not had much success on Turkish soil, holding a 9-2 all-time record after having lost the last seven games in that country. Its last win in Turkey came in 1999. Unics Kazan (2-0) welcomes Aris Thessaloniki (1-1) for their first battle in 16 years. No Eurocup team has been as dominant in the first two weeks as Unics, which ranks third in scoring with 89.5 points per game. Another newcomer, Steaua CSM Eximbank Bucharest (1-1) will go for its second consecutive home win against last year's semifinalist Banvit Bandirma (0-2), whose point guard A.J. Slaughter was the top scorer in Round 2 with 29 points against Unics. However, the visitors are still winless despite being the best offensive rebounding team in the competition, pulling down 18.5 of their own misses per game.

GROUP E

Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (1-1) hosts Avtodor Saratov (1-1), a newcomer that is also the highest scoring team in the competition so far, with 94 points per game. But offensive-minded Rytas is not far behind, ranking fifth with 88 points thanks in part to its 22 assists per night, second best through two games, and 10.5 three-pointers, third best. In a battle of black-and-whites, PAOK Thessaloniki (1-1) welcomes Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (1-1). Both teams are coming off losses. Although Besiktas already has a road win this season, it also has allowed the most points in the first two Eurocup rounds. Hungarian champion Szolnoki Olaj (0-2) hosts Zenit St. Petersburg (2-0) for the second year in a row. The two teams beat each other at home last season. Szolnoki's 96-94 win over Zenit in Round 1 last season was the club's first Eurocup victory ever. This time, Szolnoki enters this contest as the lowest-scoring offense in the competition, while Zenit is one of eight undefeated teams.

GROUP F

AEK Athens (0-2) and Eurocup's index rating leader, Loukas Mavrokefalidis, host Nizhny Novgorod (2-0). It is AEK's second consecutive home game against a Russian team after not having faced a single club from that country since 2001. Nizhny is known for high-scoring offense, but so far its defense has stood out, allowing just 72 points per game, tied for third lowest in Eurocup. In search of its first win of the season, Neptunas Klaipeda (0-2) welcomes Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (1-1). The visitors would get a big boost if the Eurocup's current top scorer Tony Mitchell returns to the lineup. Oktyabr's swingman scored 39 points in the opener, but missed last week's game due to slight injury. In a high profile showdown, Galatasaray Istanbul (2-0) tries to go for three out of three when it hosts Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (1-1). Only one team has scored more points than Galatasaray (81.5 ppg.) in the first two weeks of action. The Israeli champs have hit only 5 three-points shots in the first two games, however, Jerusalem showed fine defense last week, having held Neptunas to only 59 points.

FIBA EUROPE CUP

Opening Week Review

30.10.2015

Extracting conclusions about the entire FIBA Europe Cup Regular Season after only one full day of action is obviously utterly illogical, but who can resist the temptation? Come and take the plunge as we look back at what happened in the opening games.

THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME?

The inaugural edition of the FIBA Europe Cup started with something of a throwback to bygone eras, where home court advantage was almost a guarantee of success.

The home team won in eight of the first ten games in the competition, making an overwhelming argument in favour of home comforts.

But then Wednesday came and a balance was struck as victory went to the visiting team in seven of the 16 games that day.

After the completion of the Thursday schedule, the overall score in the 23 games of the opening week was 19-9 for home teams.

Tsmoki-Minsk, ASVEL, Maccabi Rand Media, Rosa Radom, Elan Chalon, Falco KC, CEZ Nymburk, Telenet Oostende and Cibona Zagreb were the nine teams to win on the road in the opening week.

The first daring (reckless) prediction one can make based on the small sample of just one game day, is that all those nine teams will be in the Round of 32 of the FIBA Europe Cup.

It is not however because they won on the road and this is a somehow mystical feat that other teams cannot emulate, but rather because all nine proved this week that they are very good sides which can deliver solid displays regardless of the surroundings.

SURPRISES OF THE WEEK

AEK Larnaca came close to producing the surprise of the week and possibly the year as they pushed Astana to the ropes and almost rode out of Kazakhstan with a famous triumph, but in the end the hosts survived the tight encounter.

A case can be made for Falco KC's 62-54 win at Södertälje Kings, largely because we didn't know exactly what to expect from the Hungarian team, who are off to a 5-1 start in their domestic league but had not given a European sample of late.

But, in terms of club name and history, there is no doubt that the surprise of the week came about in the game of another Swedish team, which unlike Södertälje were on the winning end.

Boras Basket should take pride in the fact they defeated FoxTown Cantu and actually did so in very convincing fashion, 101-81.

Cantu might not currently be an intimidating team but are nonetheless one of the most storied clubs in Europen history, with two Euroleague, four Saporta Cup and four Korac Cup titles in their trophycase.

STAT OF THE WEEK

At first glance, there is nothing remarkable about the offensive output of Kataja Basket in their 92-76 home win over Rilski Sportist in Group N action.

After all, ten teams scored 90 points or more in the opening week, with two among them (Belfius Mons-Hainaut and Boras Basket) even hitting the century mark.

What is jaw-dropping about Kataja's offence on Wednesday is how they went about scoring those 92 points.

The Finnish side attempted no less than 48 three-point shots, possibly establishing on the very first day of the competition a FIBA Europe Cup record that will never be broken, considering that in the entire 12-year history of the EuroChallenge no team ever attempted more than 39 triples in a single game.

Kataja hit 18 of those 48 triples on Wednesday, for a very presentable 37.5% three-point field goal percentage.

They even found the time to take 28 shots from within the arc, converting 16 of them.

PERFORMANCES OF THE WEEK

There were several brilliant individual performances during the opening game day and Teemu Rannikko of Kataja with his 18 assists, Cevher Özer of Türk Telekom Ankara with his five-on-five three-point shooting, Omar Krayem of Boras Basket with his 32 points or Andre Collins of Mons-Hainaut with his 18 points and seven assists in 20 minutes certainly made a strong bid for best of the week.

But Jean Salumu of Oostende and Nik Caner-Medley of Astana quite literally gifted to their teams victories that would have gone the other way had those players not been in the right place at the right time in the clutch.

The Belgian winger had 21 points in his team's 83-79 win at Openjobmetis Varese while the American power forward finished with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds in Astana's 78-74 win over AEK.

Roundup:

29.10.2015

EUROCUP WOMEN

Edirnespor are celebrating a pulsating and historic first ever EuroCup Women success after a phenomenal double-double from Stefanie Dolson carried them to a nail-biting 70-68 win at home to Enisey Krasnoyarsk.

The center racked up a spellbinding 22 points and 18 rebounds to star on a memorable night for the first-timers.

Elsewhere on Turkish soil, Besiktas outlined their ambition for the season after they opened their account against Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje.

The Istanbul side rode their way to a 76-66 victory in Group A after finding a higher offensive gear during the final quarter when they poured in 28 points.

Their impressive opening statement of intent for the campaign was primarily sketched out by the contributions of Croatia national team centre Luca Ivankovic who powered her way to a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Cappie Pondexter weighed in with a game-high 21 points.

Meanwhile Dunav 8806 are still searching for their maiden win after going down 83-71 in Group D at Istanbul Universitesi, as EuroBasket Women 2015 winner Sasa Cado sunk a superb 25 points for the hosts.

Edirnespor weren't the only club to write a new chapter in their history, since Sportiva Azores Airlines also soared thanks to their 76-67 victory at Uni Gyor. The Portuguese islanders took a first win home after heroics from Ashely Bruner who had 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Czech Republic side Nymburk also had the joy of completing a landmark first triumph in the tournament as they eased their way to an 82-68 victory at home to PEAC-Pecs. Jessica Kuster dazzled with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Lithuania national team player Egle Sulciute chipped in with 19 points.

Lulea BBK continued the theme of the night as they celebrated standing on virgin territory as Josefin Vesterberg corralled 20 points, with Sweden national team colleague Anna Barthold harvesting 14 boards to overturn Energia Ivanovo 82-71.

Dike Napoli celebrated a winning first footstep too, as Croatia national team forward Jelena Ivezic scored 18 points and Canadian star Natalie Achonwa garnered 15 points in a 72-63 win against fellow rookies Orange Blizzards.

And, the history didn't stop there in the most dramatic encounter of the night as UFAB 49 came back from the brink and a 17-point deficit to complete a compelling 88-84 win against Namur.

Swedish small forward Elisabeth Egnell tied the game in regulation and Angers finished the job primarily down to 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists from Sofija Aleksandravicius.

One of the biggest crowds of the night was in Vologda where the locals cheered local favourites Chevakata to a 65-58 win against Tsmoki Minsk. Latvia national team star Anete Steinberga brought the noise with 11 points and 12 rebounds - missing just one shot all night and it was a display complemented by Tatiana Petrushina who added 17 points.

Finally, TTT Riga had to work hard to make the regular season after playing a qualifier and they made the most of their progression by opening up with a 75-69 Group B win against Orduspor. Kristen Mann and Sydney Carter combined for 40 points as the Latvian side did the business down the stretch.

Regular Season, Round 8: Line for Last 32 starts here!

Four teams advanced prior to Round 8, but the number of qualifiers to the Last 32 can almost quadruple this week when as many as 11 teams have a chance to clinch their tickets, too. The action starts on Tuesday with three games, while the remaining 15 is scheduled for Wednesday.

GROUP A

On Tuesday, JSF Nanterre (3-4) hosts Dolomiti Energia Trento (5-2). While this is a must-win clash for the hosts, Trento would not only sweep Nanterre with a victory, but also get a three-win cushion ahead of it, enough to keep the group lead and secure a place in the Last 32. The same will be true on Wednesday when Dominion Bilbao Basket (5-2) plays at home against EWE Baskets Oldenburg (3-4). Bilbao enters this contest on a three-victory streak, and will stay in first place and qualify for the Last 32 with another. Oldenburg had won three in a row before losing last week to Trento and needs to get back to its winning ways. Telekom Baskets Bonn (2-5) welcomes Union Olimpija Ljubljana (3-4) in a pivotal game for both teams. Bonn won their Round 3 clash 77-82 on the road, and another win help it a lot in the Last 32 race. Olimpija has lost its last three games on German soil, where it has not won since 2009.

GROUP B

In a classic Eurocup matchup, ALBA Berlin (4-3) hosts Le Mans Sarthe Basket (2-5) knowing a win would send it to the Last 32. Earlier in the season ALBA had a four-game winning streak during which it beat Le Mans on the road 84-88, but the German side has dropped its last two games. Le Mans looks to build on its recent performances, especially on the defensive end, where they allow only 67.7 points in the last three games. Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia (4-3) welcomes MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg (5-2). Both teams can qualify to the Last 32 after this game. Reggio Emilia needs a win and a loss by Le Mans, while Ludwigsburg goes through with either a win or a Le Mans defeat. Enel Basket Brindisi (1-6) hopes to avoid elimination at home against the already-qualified Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas (5-2). Brindisi needs to win out, and get a lot of help from other results to have any chance at the next round. Gran Canaria, last year runner-up, won their Round 3 game 103-76 and looks for a sweep as it aims to finish first in the group.

GROUP C

CAI Zaragoza (4-3) hosts SLUC Nancy (1-6) as both teams hope to snap their respective losing streaks. Nancy scores a league-low 68.7 points per game and has three losses in a row. A fourth consecutively would all but end its Last 32 hopes. Meanwhile, CAI takes the best care of the ball, committing a league-low 10.4 turnovers, and would qualify for the Last 32 with a victory and a loss by Proximus Spirou Charleroi (2-5) and Round 7 co-MVP Billy Baron, who play at home against Umana Reyer Venice (4-3). Spirou is keen on continuing its two-game winning streak, but goes against a highly-motivated Venice side which will advance with a victory. Venice will rely on its sharpshooter Michael Bramos who has averaged 4.7 triples over the last three games. Unbeaten group leader Valencia Basket (7-0) is at home against ratiopharm Ulm (3-4). Valencia allows league-low 66.7 points per game, and can clinch the first place with a win or a loss by Venice. For Ulm, a victory combined with a loss by Spirou and a loss by Nancy would send it forward to the next phase.

GROUP D

In a high-profile showdown, Aris Thessaloniki (4-3) hosts Unics Kazan (5-2). The first clash between two sides this season went into overtime, and Aris prevailed on the road 73-74. Aris is 3-0 at home this season, but Unics arrives knowing it can clinch a Last 32 berth with a victory. Banvit Banidrma (3-4) looks to get back to the winning ways at home against Steaua CSM Eximbank Bucharest (2-5). It’s a must-win game for both teams. A victory would boost the Last 32 chances for Banvit, the competition's best offensive rebounding team at 15.4 per game, while the same result for Steaua would keep its hopes to advace alive. Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (3-4) aims to stay unbeaten at home when Trabzonspor Medical Park (4-3) pays a visit. Buducnost is 3-0 in Podgorica this season, and has won each of those games by a double-digit margin. It will be important for the Montenegrin champs to continue that streak against Trabzonspor, which won their Round 3 game 75-71. Trabzonspor has yet to win on the road in Eurocup, but if it does so in Podgorica, and Banvit beats Steaua, it would qualify for the Last 32.

GROUP E

Looking for a victory that would earn it a spot in the Last 32, Avtodor Saratov (5-2) and Round 7 co-MVP Paul Stoll welcome Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (2-5). The hosts have the highest-scoring offense (90.7) and have won five of their last six games with an average margin of 15.8 points. During that streak, they beat Rytas in Vilnius 81-97 as eight Avtodor players scored in double figures. Meanwhile, Rytas has two road wins in three games this season and forces a Eurocup-high 18.6 turnovers per contest. Already-qualified group leader Zenit St. Petersburg (6-1) hosts red-hot Szolnoki Olaj (3-4). The Hungarian champs are on a three-game winning streak, and a fourth would put them on the verge of a historic success and a place in the Last 32. But Zenit and three-point marksman Ryan Toolson, who averages 4.25 triples per game, aim for a victory that would help them clinch first place in the group. In a pivotal matchup for both teams, Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (3-4) welcomes PAOK Thessaloniki (2-5). The visitors have dropped five of their last six games, while Besiktas has allowed a league-worst 92.7 points in the last three weeks. However, Besiktas aims for a performance similar to the one in Round 3, when it beat PAOK on the road 80-100.

GROUP F

On Tuesday, in a must-win game for the hosts, Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (2-5) welcomes already-qualified Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (6-1). Jerusalem knows it needs a win to stay in the Last 32 race after losing in a dramatic fashion the last two weeks, while Galatasaray could clinch first place with a win and a loss by Nizhny Novgorod (4-3). The latter plays host to AEK Athens (4-3) and Eurocup's scoring and rebounding leader Loukas Mavrokefalidis (25 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game). If Jerusalem loses, the winner between Nizhny and AEK qualifies to the next stage. On Wednesday, Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (1-6) hopes to stay in Last 32 contention when it welcomes Neptunas Klaipeda (4-3). Led by Travis Bader, who has made a league-best 25 triples on astounding 71.4% accuracy, Neptunas can qualify with a win and a Jerusalem loss. On the other hand, Oktyabr needs a win to keep its chances to advance alive.

Regular Season, Round 8: Five more break into the Last 32

As many as 12 teams could have broken through to the Last 32 in Round 8, but in the end the list was much shorter: Dolomiti Energia Trento of Group A and Nizhny Novgorod of Group F got in with Tuesday victories and Dominion Bilbao of Group A and Avtodor Saratov of Group E both won at home Wednesday, while Group D’s Trabzonspor Medical Park did so on the road to clinch Last 32 spots.

GROUP A

Two teams qualified to the Last 32 with Round 8 victories. Tuesday saw Dolomiti Energia Trento edge JSF Nanterre in overtime 79-85 to advance. Julian Wright starred with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals for the winners, while Mykal Riley paced Nanterre with 24 points and 5 assists. Trento held Nanterre to just 9 second-quarter points to lead 33-37 at the break. Nanterre held a 4-point lead in the final minute of regulation, but the visitors climbed back. In the end, Trento was too strong in the extra session. Dominion Bilbao Basket pulled out a 73-68 win over EWE Baskets Oldenburg to reach the Last 32, too. It is the fourth straight win for Dominion BB, which led 64-48 late in the third quarter only for the visitors to reply with a 2-20 run. But the hosts scored the last 7 points of the contest as Dairis Bertans led the way with 15 points, while Giorgos Bogris amassed 9 points and 14 rebounds. Union Olimpija Ljubljana held off Telekom Baskets Bonn 88-93, making its push towards a spot in the Last 32. Olimpija pulled away to an 18-point margin midway through the fourth, only for Bonn to answer with a 16-0 run. But Olimpija prevailed as Sava Lesic finished with 24 points.

GROUP B

Already-qualified Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas cruised to a comfortable 71-88 win over Enel Basket Brindisi, jumping into the sole possession of first place. Sasu Salin netted 21 points on 5-for-8 three point shooting and Alen Omic amassed 17 points plus 11 rebounds, as Gran Canaria led from the start and broke the game open with a 2-20 fourth-quarter run. Le Mans Sarthe Basket edged ALBA Berlin 80-86, sweeping ALBA and keeping alive its chance of advancing to the Last 32. The visitors took the lead for good midway through the second quarter, and Mickael Gelabale and Tywain McKee scored key baskets in the third quarter for Le Mans to pull away. The hosts rallied, but McKee made clutch free throws as he finished with 25 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds in victory. Rimantas Kaukenas hit a last-second shot to lift Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia over MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg 69-68 on Wednesday night. Both teams are now tied at 5-3 record in a share of the second place in Group B, and need to win one more game, or see one more Le Mans loss to mathematically secure their place in the Last 32. The teams traded leads throughout 40 minutes, and Ludwigsburg went up by a point with 3 seconds to go on Rocky Trice free throws, but after a timeout Kaukenas scored a game-winner on the other end for Reggio Emilia victory. Kaukenas finished with 15 points, and Darjus Lavrinovic scored 14 to lead the hosts.

GROUP C

CAI Zaragoza edged SLUC Nancy 75-71 to snap a two-game losing streak and take a giant step towards the Last 32. CAI trailed by up to 8 points in the third quarter before taking the lead for good in the fourth. Joan Sastre made a key block and Tomas Bellas made 2 free throws in the waning seconds to win the game. Stevan Jelovac collected 14 points and 9 rebounds and Sastre had 13 points in victory. Proximus Spirou Charleroi rallied to beat Umana Reyer Venice 86-83. Jimmy Baron scored 18 points as one of four players to score at least 15 points for Spirou, which trailed 61-73 early in the fourth before an 11-0 run got it back to 77-77. In the final minutes, Kevin Tumba, Pavel Pumprla and Jimmy Baron made key plays to lift the hosts to victory. Tumba collected 17 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks and Pumprla had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Valencia Basket edged ratiopharm Ulm 93-88 to remain undefeated. Guillem Vives scored 18 points to lead the team to an 8-0 record.

GROUP D

The first Last 32 qualifier from this group is Trabzonspor Medical Park, which held off Buducnost VOLI Podgorica 79-82 to advance. Trabzonspor became the first team to win in the Montenegrin capital this season as it improved to 5-3. The visitors led throughout the second half, but allowed Buducnost to rally from 71-79 to within 1 in the closing seconds before securing the win. Dwight Hardy had 22 points and 5 assists, while Novica Velickovic posted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bojan Subotic scored 19 to lead Buducnost which dropped to 3-5. Aris Thessaloniki outlasted Unics Kazan 76-70 as both teams now sport 5-3 records. Aris pulled away to 67-59 in the fourth, then held on in the end as Jerel McNeal netted 15 points while Keith Langford finished with 25 points for Unics. Banvit Bandirma thrashed Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest 90-60, behind 18 points from Courtney Fortson, while Dominique Johnson added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Steaua was as close as 55-47 late in the third quarter, but Johnson stepped up with three shots from downtown and got plenty of help from Fortson to seal the outcome.

GROUP E

Avtodor Saratov downed Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 109-92 at home to qualify for the Last 32. Travis Peterson led the winners with 25 points and Evgeny Koleshnikov added 24 on 5-of-5 three-point shooting. Avtodor led 25-18 after 10 minutes and Artem Zabelin capped a 9-0 run with a dunk as Avtodor boosted its margin to 52-35 at halftime. Little changed after the break as Avtodor celebrated a historic win. Already-qualified Zenit St. Petersburg defeated Szolnoki Olaj 89-64 at home to remain atop the group standings. Ryan Toolson led the winners with 28 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting. Dmitry Golovin and an unstoppable Toolson boosted the hosts' lead to 24-10 after 10 minutes, Zenit fended off a mini-rally in the second quarter and despite the visitors’ best efforts, the game was never in doubt in the second half. PAOK Thessaloniki scored a 73-75 overtime victory over Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul at the Sinan Erdem Dome. William Hatcher starred with 32 points, including 2 free throws to tie it with 7 seconds left in overtime and a pull-up jumper to win it. In between, his defense forced Besiktas guard Nate Wolters into a backcourt violation that gave PAOK the extra shot to win it.

GROUP F

In the first game played in Round 8, Nizhny Novgorod beat AEK Athens 86-79 on Tuesday to secure its place in the Last 32. Nizhny rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to improve to 5-3 and move within one win of Group F leader Galatasaray Odeabank. AEK did hold on to any potential tiebreaker between the teams, because it won their previous meeting by 17 points in Round 3 in the Greek capital. Victor Rudd paced the winners with 15 points and Kaspars Berzins posted 10 points and 11 rebounds. After AEK scored the first two baskets of the second half to lead 44-56, Nizhny rallied to tie it by the end of the third quarter and Ivan Strebkov hit some big shots in the fourth as he and Rudd led the hosts to the victory. Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem edged Galatasaray 86-82 at Pais Arena Jerusalem to keep its Last 32 hopes alive. The game was close throughout tied early in the fourth. It came down to the final minute and the teams traded points until missed free throws by Galatasaray scorer Errick McCollum created space for Jerusalem and E.J. Rowland made it a two-possession game from the line. Rowland finished with 21 points and 6 assists for the winners, while Donta Smith amassed 14 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. On Wednesday, Neptunas Klaipeda knocked Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd out with a 74-97 win. A 12-2 run midway through the second quarter opened a double digit cushion for Neptunas, which led 29-43 at the break. Another 11 unanswered points early in the second half made it a 20-point game and Neptunas kept the huge difference till the final buzzer. Vytautas Saraskauskas led the winners with an outstanding performance of 24 points on 6-of-7 two-point shooting and 10 rebounds. Oktyabr was eliminated from Last 32 contention after dropping its sixth straight game.

Regular Season, Round 9: Race for Last 32 rages!

With just two games to go in the regular season and only nine teams qualified for the next phase, a total of 15 places in the Last 32 are up for grabs - and many of them can be had this week. The drama starts with two pivota Tuesday games before a wave of 16 decisive battles on Wednesday.

GROUP A

The race to the Last 32 will take a little more shape after already-qualified Energia Dolomiti Trento (6-2) hosts Telekom Baskets Bonn (2-6) on Wednesday. On Tuesday, EWE Baskets Oldenburg defeated JSF Nanterre 83-92 on the road. Oldenburg, which completed a sweep of Nanterre, can reach the Last 32 if Trento beats Bonn.Nanterre’s Last 32 chances took a hit. Vaughn Duggins paced EWE Baskets with 22 points and Brian Qvale netted 19 on 8-of-10 shooting. If Bonn defeats Trento; Oldenburg and Nanterre will continue hunting for qualification in Round 10. Also on Wednesday, Union Olimpija Ljubljana (4-4) hosts already-qualified Dominion Bilbao Basket (6-2) knowing that it can secure a Last 32 berth with a victory. However, Bilbao is undefeated in four games on the road, and leads the Eurocup in defense, allowing just 64.5 points per game.

GROUP B

In a high-profile clash, already-qualified group leader Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas (6-2) welcomes ALBA Berlin (4-4). The hosts force 17.1 turnovers per game, second-most in the competition, and need a win that would inch them closer to clinching first place. ALBA can make Last 32 if it wins and Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia (5-3) beats Le Mans Sarthe Basket (3-5) on the road. Le Mans and Round 8 MVP Tywain McKee are seeking for a third straight win to stay in Last 32 contention. During the winning streak, Le Mans has led the Eurocup in offensive rebounding with 16.7 over the last three games. Reggio Emilia is all but qualified, and needs either a win or a loss of 7 points or less to advance. Already-eliminated Enel Basket Brindisi (1-7) welcomes MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg (5-3) as the visitors will book a place in the last 32 with a victory. Ludwigsburg also qualifies with a loss and a win by Gran Canaria.

GROUP C

CAI Zaragoza and Umana Reyer Venice celebrated advancing to the Last 32 on Tuesday… And did so without even playing! SLUC Nancy outlasted Proximus Spirou Charleroi 81-86 on Tuesday in Belgium. Benjamin Sene led six Nancy scorers in double figures with a career-high 20 points and Derwin Kitchen added a double-double for the winners, who improved to 2-7 to remain alive in the hunt for fourth place in Group C and guaranteed CAI and Venice top four finishes. Nancy’s Last 32 dreams would come to an end if ratiopahrm Ulm (3-5) beats CAI Zaragoza (5-3) at home on Wednesday. In that scenario, Ulm would also reach the Last 32. Spirou fell to 3-6 and would also be eliminated with an Ulm victory. Randal Falker and James Bell combined for 9 points in a 0-11 third-quarter run that gave Nancy the lead for good. Billy Baron made 6-of-12 three-pointers for 26 points in defeat. Umana Reyer Venice (4-4) hosts undefeated Valencia Basket (8-0) on Wednesday.

GROUP D

Steaua CSM Eximbank Bucharest (2-6) plays its last home Eurocup game this season against Aris Thessaloniki (5-3). The team from the Romanian capital is mathematically eliminated from Last 32 contention, but the visitors from Greece would clinch a place in the next phase with a win. Unics Kazan (5-3) hosts Buducnost Voli Podgorica (3-5) also knowing a win sends it into the Last 32. Unics can help Aris, too, as both teams qualify if Unics downs the Montenegrin champs. An Unics victory would also be a helping hand for Banvit Bandirma (4-4) which plays host in an all-Turkish showdown to already-qualified Trabzonspor Medical Park (5-3). A Banvit win and an Unics win would send Banvit to the next phase, while eliminating Buducnost in the process.

GROUP E

Already-qualified Zenit St. Petersburg (7-1) hosts last-place Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (2-6) in what is a key game for the visitors, who need a victory if they want to keep destiny in their own hands. Rytas allows 99 points per game, second-highest in the competition. Zenit can win the group with a victory combined with a loss by already-qualified Avtodor Saratov (6-2), which visits PAOK Thessaloniki (3-5). Avtodor is the highest scoring team in the competition (93 ppg.), and has never won a game on the Greek soil. PAOK will try to continue with that trend, as it needs a win to boost its Last 32 chances. Szolnoki Olaj (3-5) looks to get back to the winning ways when Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (3-5) comes to town. This is fifth meeting between two sides in the past five seasons, and Besiktas holds 3-1 record having won both previous meetings in Szolnok. This contest has a Last 32 berth at stake. Besiktas goes to the Last 32 with a win, and either a loss by Rytas or PAOK. Meanwhile, Szolnoki will look to overcome 76-67 Besiktas win from Round 4, but would also clinch a Last 32 place with any win combined with losses by both Rytas and PAOK. And if PAOK were to defeat Avtodor, Rytas would be eliminated with its own loss.

GROUP F

In a must-win game for both teams, Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (3-5) hosts AEK Athens (4-4) and the Eurocup's scoring leader, Loukas Mavrokefalidis (25.0 ppg). With only a win separating these two sides in the standings, and AEK having won their Round 4 clash by the slimmest of margins, 75-74, there will be a lot at stake in every single possession in Jerusalem. Victory by AEK would guarantee the Greek side a place in the Last 32, but a win by Jerusalem would put it in the driver's seat in the Last 32 race. Neptunas Klaipeda (5-3) hosts already-qualified Nizhny Novgorod (5-3), needing either a win or a loss by Jerusalem to clinch a place in the Last 32. Already-qualified group leader Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (6-2) plays host to already-eliminated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd. The hosts can clinch the first place if they win and Nizhny loses.

Round 10: Five chances to reach Last 32!

The final week of the Eurocup Regular Season features 19 teams already qualified to the next round and five more places waiting to be filled. Those five free spots are divided among five groups, and with final standings to decide Last 32 groups, there is plenty to play for in two games on Tuesday and 16 more on Wednesday!

GROUP A

In the first of three Wednesday games, already-eliminated Telekom Baskets Bonn (2-7) welcomes a JSF Nanterre squad (3-6) that needs a win to keep alive its Last 32 hopes. In addition to victory, Nanterre also needs help from already-qualified EWE Baskets Oldenburg (4-5), which plays host to Union Olimpija Ljubljana (4-5). The visitors in that game need a victory or a Nanterre loss to qualify. Should it lose, Olimpija will also qualify if the sum of the point-difference between that defeat and a win by Nanterre is less than 7 points. Nanterre will qualify if it wins by 6 or more points and Olimpija loses, or if the point-difference of its victory and the point-difference of Olimpija's loss is 7 or more points. Finally, in a winner-take-all clash that will determine first place in the standings, Dominion Bilbao Baskets (7-2) puts its five-game winning streak on the line when Dolomiti Energia Trento (7-2) pays a visit. Trento is on a winning-streak, too, having won four in a row and its last three road games. Bilbao makes 10.2 three-pointers per game, fifth-best in the Eurocup, and is one of only four teams that hits 40%or more of its shots from the arc. Trento is ranked third in scoring (87.1) in the competition.

GROUP B

Needing a win to qualify to the Last 32, ALBA Berlin (4-5) welcomes Enel Basket Brindisi (1-8) to the German capital. Both teams come into the game on losing streaks. ALBA has dropped four in a row after starting the season 4-1, while Brindisi has been defeated in the last three games by an average of 21.7 points. If it loses, ALBA would need already-qualified MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg (6-3) to defeat visiting Le Mans Sarthe Basket (3-6) in a game that tips off simultaneously on Wednesday in southern Germany. If ALBA loses and Le Mans wins, it would be Le Mans going to the Last 32. In the group's last game, Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia (6-3) hosts Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas (7-2) in a battle for first place. To finish on top of the group, Reggio Emilia needs to win by 10 or more points in order to overcome its 76-67 loss to Gran Canaria in Round 5. Should Ludwigsburg win, howver, a victory by any total be enough for Reggio Emilia to finish first because it would have the best head-to-head record (3-1) in a three-team tie with Gran Canaria (2-2) and Ludwigsburg (1-3). Expect Gran Canaria's offense – which ranks third in offensive rebounding (13.3), fourth in three-pointers made (10.3), and fifth in points scored (84.6) – to have a say in all this, too.

GROUP C

On Tuesday, SLUC Nancy (2-7) hosts ratiopharm Ulm (3-6). While Ulm qualifies with a win, Nancy would need its own victory combined with a loss by another Last 32 hopeful, Proximus Spirou Charleroi (3-6), in its visit to unbeaten group leader Valencia Basket (9-0). In a potential three-team tie of teams holding 3-7 records, Nancy would finish ahead of Ulm and Spirou due to its 3-1 record against those teams. For Spirou to qualify, Nancy first needs to win on Tuesday, and then Spirou must beat Valencia. In a clash of a pair of Last 32-bound teams, second place CAI Zaragoza (6-3) welcomes Umana Reyer Venice (4-5). CAI will be going for a sweep of Venice after its 77-79 road victory in Round 5. CAI allows just 71 points per game on its home floor, while Venice ranks near the bottom in scoring away from home, with 70.3 points per contest.

GROUP D

Four teams already booked for the next round go head-to-head to decide the group's final standings this week. All four teams can win the group. On Tuesday, Aris Thessaloniki (6-3) looks for a victory against visiting Banvit Bandirma (5-4) that would clinch first place for the hosts. Aris holds a perfect 4-0 record and allows a league-low 65.8 points at home. If Banvit wins, however, then Unics Kazan (6-3) gets a chance to win Group D with victory on the road against Trabzonspor Medical Park (5-4) on Wednesday. If Banvit and Trabzonspor both win, those two teams also have a chance to be first, but that is when numerous combinations come into play. Banvit needs to win by 4 points to be ahead of Aris and by 29 points to be ahead of Unics. However, that 29-point number decreases by one for each point Unics losses to Trabzonspor. On the other hand, Trabzonspor needs to win by at least 19 to be ahead of Unics, but to be first also needs to beat Unics by 8 more points than the margin of Banvit over Aris, if that happens. In the case of a loss, Unics stays ahead of Trabzonspor with a loss by less than 19 points, and ahead of Banvit if the sum of its loss and Banvit's win is not bigger than 29 points. Also on Wednesday, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (3-6) faces Steaua Eximbank Bucharest (2-7) in the last Eurocup game for both sides this season. Buducnost has been stellar on defense at home, ranking right behind Aris by allowing just 67.8 points per game, while Steaua is last in scoring on the road, averaging a mere 65.3 points. In Round 5, Steaua defeated Buducnost 81-75 in the Romanian capital.

GROUP E

Already-eliminated Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (2-7) hosts PAOK Thessaloniki (4-5), which can qualify for Last 32 with a win in the Lithuanian capital. PAOK, which scores just 69.5 points on the road, the league's third-lowest average, can also go through if Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (3-6) loses at home to first-place Zenit St. Petersburg (8-1). Besiktas has lost five in a row, a streak that includes two home loses and an average margin of defeat of 13 points. If it wants to see the next phase, Besiktas needs to snap that streak, but also needs Rytas to beat PAOK. In a clash of the teams going to the Last 32 for the first time ever, second-place Avtodor Saratov (6-3) hosts Szolnoki Olaj (4-5). Avtdor leads the Eurocup in scoring (93.7) and three-point shooting, making 10.9 triples on 45.2% accuracy. Avtodor has won its last three home games by an average of 16.3 points and hopes to avenge 83-79 road loss against Szolnoki from Round 5.

GROUP F

Two teams fight for one remaining Last 32 spot in Group F. Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (4-5) pays a visit to already-eliminated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (1-8) needing a win to keep its Last 32 hopes alive. AEK Athens (4-5) plays hosts to already-qualified Neptunas Klaipeda (6-3), and also needs a win to keep its chances to advance. However, neither Jerusalem nor AEK hold destiny in their own hands, but depend on the outcome of the game in which Nizhny Novgorod (5-4) hosts group leader Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (7-2). To qualify, Jerusalem needs to win and needs Nizhny to win, too. For AEK and Loukas Mavrokefalidis – the Eurocup's scoring (23.9 points) and index rating (31.0 PIR) leader – to reach the Last 32, they need to win in Round 10 and hope either Nizhny or Jerusalem lose. Meanwhile, Galatasaray - which ranks second in scoring (88.0) - needs a victory to secure first place in the group. If it loses, and Neptunas wins in the Greek capital, it will be Neptunas that will claim the top spot in the group.

Round Of 32 Preview

10.12.2015

FIBA EUROPE CUP

Based on what we saw during the opening stage of the FIBA Europe Cup, we make some daring -but not unfounded- predictions about what we can expect in the Round of 32 which tips off next week.

IT'S ABOUT TO GET TOUGHER

Türk Telekom Ankara can boast of having concluded the Regular Season with the best offence in the entire competition, as they registered an average scoring output of 92.5 points per 40 minutes of play.

Not far behind, Tsmoki Minsk were the second-best offence at the end of the Regular Season, having scored 91.3 points per contest.

Going forward however, neither the Turkish nor the Belarusian team can realistically hope to maintain their offensive output at such high levels.

While both teams possess undeniable offensive virtues, they both went up against some of the weakest defences during the first stage of the competition.

Ankara faced each of KTP Basket and KK Kumanovo twice during the Regular Season games and scored an average of 95.5 points in those four games.

It is hardly surprising, as the Finnish had the second-worst defence (55th) and Kumanovo the sixth from bottom (51st) in the entire FIBA Europe Cup.

Similarly, Minsk were in Regular Season Group N, together with MBK Komarno and Rilski Sportist (in addition to Kataja Basket).

Komarno exited the competition as the fifth from bottom defence, giving up an average of 86.7 points per game, while Rilski Sportist were one position lower and allowed 89.5 points per contest.

Just how much of a drop Ankara and Minsk must brace for, could depend on whether they can preserve the smooth ball movement they showcased in the Regular Season.

The Turkish team dished out a collective 21.5 assists per contest, second-highest at this stage of the competition, while the Belarus team had 20.2 assists per game.

NOBODY IS PERFECT?

One has to tip their hart to the six teams that got through the Regular Season undefeated: Port of Antwerp Giants, Bakken Bears Aarhus, Fraport Skyliners, BK Ventspils, Khimik Yuzhne and the aforementioned Türk Telekom Ankara.

At least two of those teams however will not maintain their perfect run past the second week of the Round of 32 at the latest, since the paths of Antwerp and Ventspils cross in Group P immediately after the Christmas break while Bakken Bears and Khimik will do battle already in the Group T opener.

The good news for those who make it unscathed (at least) until the third week of action in the Round of 32 though, is that they seem destined to ultimately clinch a place in the Final Four.

This assumption is based on precedents in the EuroChallenge, after we adjust for the competition system, as that competition was starting off with 32 instead of 56 participating teams.

That is not to say though that the probability of a team going undefeated all the way is high, as in the history of the EuroChallenge there were only two teams which achieved that feat - interestingly enough, both were Russian.

The first was the superb Dynamo St. Petersburg of coach David Blatt which conquered the trophy (then named FIBA Europe League) on an amazing 20-0 record in 2005.

The second was Krasnye Krylia Samara of coach Sergey Bazarevich, which won all 16 games to win the EuroChallenge 2013 title, including the final at the home of Final Four hosts Pinar Karsiyaka.

MAY THE REAL YOU STEP FORWARD

By now we have a pretty realistic idea of every team's potential, but be prepared to see some changes, generally in a positive direction, as we enter the Round of 32.

Teams like CEZ Nymburk and Cibona Zagreb struggled with injury problems during the Regular Season but they should be back to full strength soon, at least in time for Week 2 which takes place after the Christmas break.

Cibona in particular will be able to field together for the first time both of their highly-promising big men in Ivica Zubac and Ante Zizic (both 1997-born).

The Croatian team have several youngsters on their roster and a new coach in Damir Mulaomerovic, so by definition they are likely to look quite different to the team we saw during the Regular Season.

Telenet Oostende playmaker Dusan Djordjevic is expected to be back in action in early January, certainly in time for the final four games of the Round of 32.

While the veteran Serbian guard's figures are not impressive in isolation, he is immensely important to Oostende's offence running smoothly.

Krka Novo Mesto meanwhile will have to come up with a replacement for another Serbian point guard, before the Round of 32.

On Wednesday they parted ways with Dusan Katnic, who contributed 8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists on average during the Regular Season.

There are other considerations though too, as whether teams will be forced to prioritise between competitions or n
ASVEL and Fraport Skyliners for example are in superbly advantageous positions in their respective domestic leagues and have sufficiently deep rosters.

Royal Hali Gaziantep are off to their best start in the Turkish TBL and firmly in the race for a play-off berth, while Turk Telekom Ankara are in a dire position in the same competition, similarly to Slask Wroclaw in the Polish Tauron League.

Ventspils are involved in the most close race in recent memory for top spot in the Latvian LKL, while Södertälje Kings are leading the Swedish league with a comfortable cushion over the teams pursuing them.

The three teams who compete in the VTB United League meanwhile, Tsmoki Minsk, Enisey Krasnoyarsk and Nymburk, have to go through a string of games from now until the end of January which will most likely define their campaign in that competition.

STRETCH THE FLOOR

As the competition progresses and defences tighten the screws, there is one aspect which recent basketball trends have shown to be of paramount importance: three-point shooting.

Only two teams who were in the top-12 of three-point field goal percentage at the end of the Regular Season did not make it to the Round of 32, Rilski Sportist and Kumanovo.

There is the impression though that this resource largely remains untapped for now, as only ASVEL, Türk Telekom and Openjobmetis Varese concluded the Regular Season with satisfying accuracy from downtown.

ASVEL lead the FIBA Europe Cup with 49.3% from three-point range, Ankara are second on 44.4% and Varese are right behind them, converting 44.1% of their attempts from outside the arc.

All three will want to at least keep it up while the rest will need to catch up sooner rather than later.

New Faces Arrive For Round Of 16

14.12.2015

FIBA EUROPE CUP

In the days leading up to the start of the FIBA Europe Cup Round of 16 Turk Telekom Ankara have made two new signings while Lukoil Academic Sofia and Petrolina AEK Larnaca have also chosen to bolster their rosters.

Last week, Ankara learned that former Latvian international Kristaps Valters will be sidelined for several weeks after picking up a new injury, while they also parted ways definitely with Montenegrin power Boris Savovic.

The Turkish side moved swiftly and over the weekend, they secured the services of two experienced players.

Ankara brought in former Serbian international Aleksandar Rasic, who had started the season at Romanian club Steaua CSM Bucarest.

The 31-year-old combo guard averaged 9.1 points and 4.1 assists in the Romanian LNB while he contributed similar figures in the first stage of the Eurocup, 9.9 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Rasic has played for several big clubs during his career including fellow Turkish sides Anadolu Efes, Trabzonspor, TED Ankara Kolejliler and finally Torku Konyaspor during the past season.

The new Ankara player was a member of the Serbian national team which reached the semi-finals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship and also suited up at EuroBasket 2011.

To fill up the vacancy in the frontcourt meanwhile, Ankara turned to another well-known veteran in 2.08m forward Marcus Haislip.

The 34-year-old American played last season for another Turkish side, Eskisehir Basket, where he averaged 19.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest in the second Turkish division.

Haislip was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and played two years for the Bucks, followed by one season at Indiana Pacers.

In 2005 he crossed the Atlantic and spent a big chunk of his professional career in Europe, playing for big clubs such as Anadolu Efes, Unicaja Malaga, Panathinaikos and Laboral Kutxa Baskonia.

Ankara hope that both Rasic and Haislip will be able to debut in Wednesday's Round of 32 opener against Slask Wroclaw, although it appears more likely that their first game in their new jersey will be next weekend's local derby with TED Kolejliler in the Turkish TBL.

Academic's latest signing however is almost certain to follow his new team in Belgium and debut in Tuesday's clash with Port of Antwerp Giants.

The Bulgarian team have brought in winger Quence Donell Taylor, who had started the season in the Israeli Winner League with Maccabi Ashdod, averaging 8.4 points per game.

Last season, the 33-year-old Taylor had a short spell with EuroChallenge 2014 champions Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia, contributing 12 points per contest in the Serie A and the Eurocup.

Petrolina AEK Larnaca also opted for a tried-and-tested solution when they decided to strengthen their frontline and have penned 31-year-old Brandon Bowman, who is poised to debut in Wednesday's road game at magnofit Güssing Knights.

The American power forward had a short stint in Puerto Rico after spending last season at German side at BBC Bayreuth, where he averaged 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in the Beko BBL Bundesliga.

Roundup: Nymburk Hit Historical High Note

11.12.2015

EUROCUP WOMEN

http://666kb.com/i/d4o4wrhe8wcaq9tum.jpg

EuroCup Women newcomers Basketball Nymburk have made history after manoeuvring their way through the regular season to wrap up a place in the Round of 16 at the first time of asking.

The Czech side romped to a 79-54 Group F win against Elfic Fribourg, with a strong team performance built around 14 points and 12 rebounds from Jessica Kuster, while Egle Siksniute rattled off 17 points.

Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje have also sealed their spot in the next phase after they stormed to another big Group A home success which also resulted in Besiktas advancing. This time they swept aside Adana Aski 91-70, as Maria Vadeeva dazzled with a mesmerising double-double of 34 points and 11 rebounds, while frontcourt partner Emma Meesseman chipped in with 14 points 11 rebounds and five assists.

There was a big win in Group B for WBC Dynamo as they locked out visiting Orduspor in the closing minutes of the game to score the last nine points and take a 64-60 victory, with Anastasiia Pimenova the main protagonist with 19 points.

TTT Riga moved to the cusp of a place in the Round of 16 after outpacing Udominate Basket 79-57, as Zenta Melnika struck 18 points and Sydney Carter excelled with 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

A highly productive offering from Ivory Latta boosted the chances of Edirnespor making it out of Group C after they took a 73-61 win at home to Tsmoki Minsk. However, Chevakata were dealt a blow when they were felled by domestic rivals Enisey Krasnoyarsk 69-64, with a disastrous 21-5 third quarter not helping their cause. The visitors were propelled by Belarus national team forward Maryia Papova, who had a game-high 23 points.

Already safely into the Round of 16, Istanbul Universitesi protected their unbeaten run in Group D as they eased past Energia Ivanovo 72-59. EuroBasket Women champion Sasa Cado notched 20 points and Elizabeth Williams posted 14 points and 16 boards.

Lulea BBK enhanced their situation by moving past Dunav 8806 in an entertaining 77-74 match-up. They got the job done at the business end of the game, with Josefin Vesterberg sinking a big score with 14 seconds remaining and Anna Barthold racking up 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Umana Reyer took a step closer to advancing further in the competition as Karima Christmas continued her fine form with 18 points in a 74-61 Group E road win at Pinkk Pesci 424.

Aluinvent Miskolc are yet to lose and Orange Blizzards are yet to chalk a win in Group G after the former won 84-74 in Amsterdam. Alyssia Brewer headlined with 19 points and 16 rebounds alongside 21 points from Belarus winger Tatsiana Likhtarovich.

Finally in Group H, competition rookies Sportiva Azores Airlines have tasted defeat for the first time after blowing a 19 point lead at UFAB 49 to fall 73-72 in overtime. Sofija Aleksandravicius stood out with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ashley Bruner had a spectacular 16 points and 24 rebounds in defeat.

Roundup: Umana Reyer Reach The Round Of 16

16.12.2015

EUROCUP WOMEN

After their sabbatical from EuroCup Women, Umana Reyer have sealed a successful return to the competition after collecting a vibrant 80-60 Group E win against TSV 1880 Wasserburg to advance to the next phase.

The Venetians will line-up in the Round of 16 thanks mainly to Marie Ruzickova, who made a big impact in their crunch final game of the opening round.

As the hosts caught fire early and found some important offensive rhythm, she ended up with a stellar 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Sportiva Azores Airlines took top spot in Group H on their debut in the competition after winning 81-62 at Belfius Namur, who will still advance despite the loss. Shaqwedia Wallace and Ashley Bruner combined for 48 points for the visiting team.

Aluinvent Miskolc will head into the Round of 16 with a perfect record to their name after 16 points from Dora Horti spearheaded a tight 68-64 Group G triumph at home to Dike Napoli who also progress.

Valosun KP Brno and Orange Blizzards both ended their involvement with the former winning 81-59 on the road in Zwolle to keep their rookie opponents winless - Lenita Sanford led the way with 19 points.

Finally in Group A, Adana Aski waved goodbye to their participation with a victory as they took down domestic rivals Besiktas 91-82 behind a huge 29 points from Sweden national team center Amanda Zahui.

Besiktas had already sealed their spot in the Round of 16.

Regular Season, Round 10: The Last 32 picture is complete!

The final week of the Eurocup Regular Season saw the final five places in the Last 32 filled. On Tuesday ratiopharm Ulm won in France to advance and three more teams celebrated on foreign courts Wednesday; Union Olimpija Ljubljana clinched in Germany, PAOK Thessaloniki in Lithuania and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem in Russia. ALBA Berlin edged Enel Brindisi at home to survive. The Last 32 begins in January.

GROUP A

Sasa Zagorac made a pair of free throws with 16.8 seconds to go as Union Olimpija Ljubljana edged EWE Baskets Oldenburg 75-77 to advance to the Last 32 from third place in Group A. Zagorac led the way with 23 points as Olimpija improved to 5-5, while already-qualified Oldenburg fell to 4-6 and fourth place. The visitors led by 15 at halftime. Oldenburg rallied in the third quarter to close the gap, and tied the game in the fourth, but the hosts never took the lead. Sava Lesic added 18 points in the Olimpija win that eliminated JSF Nanterre, which downed Telekom Baskets Bonn 86-95. Nanterre needed a win by 7 points and a loss by Olimpija to qualify, but did not see that outcome. Gerald Robinson and Mykal Riley were unstoppable in the first half for Nanterre, combining to score 37 points for 38-48 halftime lead. After the break Bonn tied it at 59-59, but never took the lead as Nanterre answered with a 1-15 run. Riley finished with 26 points, and Robinson had 24 points and 8 assists in victory. Dominion Bilbao Basket beat Dolomiti Energia Trento 104-91, extending its winning streak to six games and grabbing first place in Group A. Bilbao took control early, held a 58-32 lead late in the second quarter and cruised the rest of the way as Clevin Hannah collected 22 points and 8 assists while Dairis Bertrans scored 16 points for Bilbao, which finished the regular season with an 8-2 record. Trento saw its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-3 in the group despite 20 points from Dominique Sutton.

GROUP B

Kresimir Loncar scored a put-back layup with 0.3 seconds to go as ALBA Berlin edged Enel Basket Brindisi 80-79 to reach the Eurocup Last 32 on Wednesday. ALBA finished the regular season in fourth place with a 5-5 record, but would have also qualified with a loss, as MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg routed Le Mans Sarthe Basket 90-49 earlier the same day. Jordan Taylor led the winners with 18 points, while Loncar finished with 13 points for ALBA. Meanwhile, Ludwigsburg led from start to finish against Le Mans, opening the game with a 10-0 run, boosting its margin to 46-22 at halftime and then to 78-30 early in the fourth quarter to round out an impressive win and finish the group in second place with a 7-3 record. Mustafa Shakur led in victory with 17 points. Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas held off Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 73-78 on the road to improve to 8-2 and clinch first place in the group. In a game that was close throughout 40 minutes, Kevin Pangos made clutch baskets and dished assists for the visitors to hold on. Pangos collected 15 points and 7 assists, while Sasu Salin and Alen Omic both added 12 points in the win. Reggio Emilia would have needed a 10-point victory to take over first place in the group, but dropped to third with a 6-4 record as Pietro Aradori and Darjus Lavrinovic both scored 20 points.

GROUP C

Down 13 early in the fourth quarter, ratiopharm Ulm rallied past SLUC Nancy 76-80 to claim a ticket to the Last 32. The visitors used a 0-16 run to take the lead and hung on in the final minute when Derwin Kitchen tried to punch Nancy back in. Da’Sean Butler led a balanced Ulm attack with 13 points. On Friday, Ulm learned it finished Group C in third place after second place CAI Zaragoza beat Umana Reyer Venice 82-72. CAI picked up its third straight victory, improving to 7-3 as Henk Norel scored 21 points while Stevan Jelovac had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Venice suffered its third straight defeat and fell to 4-6, dropping to fourth place behind Ulm. Valencia Basket routed Proximus Spirou Charleroi 97-76 to complete a perfect regular season. The teams were tied at 46-46 at halftime, but Valencia opened the third quarter with an 18-0 run and never looked back. Bojan Dubljevic had 20 points in less than 19 minutes in victory, and Rafa Martinez netted 14 on 4-for-5 three-point shooting. Spirou was eliminated from Last 32 contention a day earlier with Ulm’s victory, and finished the season with a 3-7 record.

GROUP D

In the first game of Round 10, Aris Thessaloniki beat Banvit Bandirma 72-53 to clinch first place in Group D. Banvit trailed by 2 early in the fourth quarter before the hosts went on a 20-1 tear that decided the game. The result boosted Aris to 7-3, while Banvit slipped to 5-5 and finished the regular season in fourth place. Jerel McNeal led the winners with 20 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting and Jamelle Hagins posted 12 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. On Wednesday, Unics Kazan topped Trabzonspor Medical Park 73-80 to claim second place. Unics improved to 7-3, the same as Aris, but the Greek side swept Unics during the regular season. Keith Langford led five Unics scorers in double figures with 22 points and Latavious Williams posted 16 points and 7 rebounds. Trabzonspor finished third with a 5-5 record like Banvit, but won a tie breaker in head-to-head matches. Buducnost VOLI Podgorica routed depleted Steaua Eximbank Bucharest 89-56 in the last Eurocup game for both teams this season. Buducnost used a 22-5 spurt in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead and never looked back as Sead Sehovic paced the winners with 17 points.

GROUP E

PAOK Thessaloniki downed Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 81-88 in the Lithuanian capital to advance to the Last 32 on Wednesday. PAOK finished the regular season with a 5-5 record and in third place in Group E. Rytas led 68-64 through three quarters, but William Hatcher scored key baskets from close range, and Uros Duvnjak hit from long range as PAOK went on to a Last 32-clinching win. Sofoklis Schortsanitis led the winners with 23 points on 10-of-14 two-point shooting and 10 rebounds, while Hatcher added 18 points. In what turned out to be its last game in the Eurocup this season, Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul routed Group E winner Zenit St. Petersburg 91-67. The win snapped Besiktas’s five-game losing streak. Besiktas learned during the third quarter that it lost its chance of qualifying to the Last 32 when PAOK won in Vilnius. Nate Wolters scored 15 points to pace Besiktas, which led from start to finish. Avtodor Saratov cruised to a 104-78 home win over Szolnoki Olaj, completing its first Eurocup Regular Season on a high note and finishing Group E in second place with a 7-3 record, while already-qualified Szolnoki fell to 4-6. An outstanding 15-for-29 shooting display from downtown led Saratov to score 104 points and record 30 assists - 10 of them dished by Paul Stoll, who also led six scorers in double figures with 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from long distance. Travis Peterson added 17 points and Jeff Brooks amassed a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.

GROUP F

The remaining Last 32 spot from the group was issued when Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem defeated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd 74-95. Jerusalem advanced thanks to Nizhny Novgorod, which defeated Galatasaray Odebank Istanbul 81-75 minutes before. A 13-3 second-quarter run broke the balance and Jerusalem led 36-51 at halftime. The visitors never looked back and increased the margin in the final minutes with a 14-0 run. D’Or Fischer led the winners with 18 points and Lior Eliyahu added 16 with 9 boards and 6 assists. Nizhny came back from 8 points down with five minutes left to beat Galatasaray and finish the regular season in third place with a 6-4 record. A closing 18-2 run fueled by Dimitry Khvostov, Evgeny Baburin and Victor Rudd gave Nizhny the come-from-behind victory as Khvostov scored 10 of his 20 points in the final quarter. Those outcomes eliminated AEK Athens, which edged Neptunas Klaipeda 75-71. AEK learned during the second half that it had no chances of advancing after both Jerusalem and Nizhny won their games, but still rallied from a 40-55 deficit to win behind Loukas Mavrokefalidis and Marc Carter. Mavrokefalidis finished the game with 27 points plus 9 rebounds, and Carter scored 10 for AEK. Daniel Ewing had 22 points and 9 assists for Neptunas, which would have won the group with victory, but finished second with a 6-4 record, allowing Galatasaray to finish atop the Group F standings with a 7-3 record.

EuroCup Women: Regular Season Review

22.12.2015

http://666kb.com/i/d4wdbd3416rcdkf6c.jpg

EUROCUP WOMEN

Our women's basketball specialist Paul Nilsen reflects on the action from the first phase of the EuroCup Women regular season.

THE HISTORY MAKERS

The story of this season's EuroCup Women has been the performances of the rookie clubs, with many of them having punched a ticket for the Round of 16 at the first time of asking, including Basketball Nymburk, Edirnespor, Dike Napoli, Lulea BBK and Sportiva Azores Airlines

The impact made by the Portuguese Islanders in particular has made them my team of the season so far. The Azores may be almost in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but they have put themselves bang in the middle of the EuroCup Women radar.

As for Edirnespor - has any team ever gone through quite so to qualify? Their double-overtime game against Chevakata was simply epic and we were just one-shot away from receiving triple overtime.

WORTH THE WAIT

If at first you don't succeed, try and then try again - some twelve times in the case of Dunav 8806 Ruse. After entering the competition for a third season off the back of going 0-4 in their debut campaign and then 0-6 last year, they also lost their opener against Istanbul Universitesi this time around.

But, stepping out with an 0-11 record to their name, the magic finally happened when they beat Lulea BBK in front of their own fans. A bit like waiting for a bus, their won their next outing against Energia Ivanovo and while just coming up short in the fight for a place in the Round of 16, never has disappointment at not progressing tasted quite so sweet.

SCINTILLATING SPARTA&K AND TERRIFIC TWIN TOWERS

It's hard to continue coming up with superlatives for Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and in particular for their stellar twin tower combination of Maria Vadeeva and Emma Meesseman. Huge credit is due to club boss Anna Arkhipova von Kalmanovich for insisting on the continuation of a wonderful youth policy - and of course to Alexander Vasin for executing that strategy on the court by allowing a plethora of young players to flourish.

The whole team has executed brilliantly and with ruthless efficiency - serving up production that completely defies the age profile and hints more at a wealth of veteran hands than exclusively nineties-born personnel. For Sparta&K are the highest scorers in the competition and the second best at field goal percentage. They also completed their biggest-ever win in the history of the club when they swept aside visiting Besiktas 109-58 in Group A. It was probably the most extraordinary result of the campaign so far and indeed one of the most eye-popping in the competition's history.

Leading the way throughout have been Vadeeva and Meesseman. Their accuracy has been majestic at a ****tly brilliant 61% and when you have two players of that quality and with permanent hot-hands, you have to have a chance of reaching the latter stages.

Even Ksenia Tikhonenko, who was loaned to WBC Dynamo Moscow, has showed the jaw-dropping depth at Sparta&K. She has also been outstanding even though her team missed the cut - she corralled a phenomenal five double-doubles from her six outings.

CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS

- Katlyn Bussey of Lulea BBK holds the highest individual score of the season so far when she fired 36 points against Energia Ivanovo.

- Maria Vadeeva has had the hottest shooting night when she made staggering 15-of-18 for Sparta&K in their Group A victory against Adana Aski.

- Nantes Reze had the hottest shooting evening of any club when they made 62% in a crunch game against TSV 1880 Wasserburg.

- One of the most spectacular individual displays so far came from Cassie Burdick of Mapei Dike Napoli after she grabbed a sensational ten steals against Valosun KP Brno. It was part of a season-high record of 23 steals for the Italians.

- Croatia national team center Luca Ivankovic led the way in blocks in a single game, after swatting six shots for Besiktas against Piestanske Cajky. Meanwhile UFAB 49 are the only team to have blocked 10 shots in a game when they achieved the feat against Namur.

- Ksenia Tikhonenko is the only player to have pulled down more than 20 rebounds in two separate games - although Ashley Bruner harvested the highest with a stunning 24 for Sprotiva Azores Airlines against UFAB 49.

- Namur were the only team to pass 40% three-point shooting but it didn't prevent them missing out on the Round of 16. Chevakata also missed out - despite making a whopping 22 triples in their heart-breaking double-overtime loss to Edirnespor.

FOOTNOTES

As just one of two teams to ride through the competition unbeaten and as the highest ranked team after the regular season, it seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth that Istanbul Universitersi will now face Besiktas. You could argue that a derby match-up is often a leveller and form can go out of the window.

For those teams whose participation ended, the biggest victims were probably both Russian in the shape of WBC Dynamo and Chevakata. The competition will be poorer without Latvia national team star Anete Steinberga. The forward illuminated EuroCup Women last year as she rode with Castors Braine to their first ever Final. This season she has put in some high class displays with Chevakata, but won't be featuring when the action resumes which is a pity.

It's been interesting to see how Serbian players have stamped their class on proceedings in the wake of that historic first EuroBasket Women title whichhas led to them both receiving the ‘Female Sports Team of the Year' in their homeland and having a stamp commissioned in their honour. Jelena Milovanovic having influence on Orduspor is to be expected after a career spent primarily in EuroLeague Women, but it has been super to see both Sasa Cado and Nevena Jovanovic put in such outstanding contributions too. The pair are classified as being part of the sub-plot at national team level (rightly or wrongly), but Cado has shot the lights out from downtown for Istanbul Universitesi and Jovanovic has really given Edirnespor a big lift since her arriv

Last 32, Round 1: Groups G, L owned by road teams!

The 2015-16 Eurocup Last 32 started with 16 exciting games, of which six were won by the visiting teams, including all the games in Groups G and L. The eight teams that ****ed the competition from the Turkish Airlines Euroleague combined to go 5-3 in their first Eurocup taste of the season – and in one case, ever! Three-time Eurocup champion Valencia Basket also won to remain perfect on the season.

Group G

Road wins set the tone for this group. FC Bayern Munich outlasted Banvit Bandirma by 83-85 in a thriller on Wednesday. Alex Renfroe's second-chance basket with 4 seconds left proved the game-winner after Dominique Johnson's triple a half-minute earlier had tied the game. Renfroe and Paul Zipser, with 14 points each, led six double-digit Bayern scorers. Johnson and Adrien Moerman scored 17 each for Banvit. Dominion Bilbao Basket claimed a strong 75-93 victory at ratiopharm Ulm. Clevin Hannah led the way with 20 points while Alex Ruoff tallied 19 points. Ulm dropped its first home game of the Last 32 despite 11 points and 5 assists from Taylor Braun.

Group H

Visiting Strasbourg defeated Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas 76-85. A 6 to 26 run bridging the first two quarters gave Strasbourg control and the visitors led by as much as 57-75 midway through the final quarter. Marcy Collins paced Strasbourg with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Strasbourg's superior shooting - 63% to 51% in two-pointers, 39% to 17% from the arc and 76% to 65% at the free throw line - told the story in the end. Avtodor Saratov outran Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem 105-96 in a high-scoring thriller. There were 27 lead changes and 18 ties before Avtodor used a 13-0 fourth quarter run to decide the game. Travis Peterson had a monster double-double of 29 points and 14 rebounds and Jeremy Chappell nailed 5 three-pointers in scoring 21 points for the winners. Donta Smith poured in 29 points in the loss for Jerusalem.

Group I

Down 12 at halftime, EWE Baskets Oldenburg soared past Limoges CSP 78-87 in the teams’ Last 32 opener on Tuesday. After its 2-21 third-quarter run, the visitors never trailed. Brian Qvale led Oldenburg with 18 points and 3 blocks and Nemanja Aleksandrov posted14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners, who got 15 assists between guards Chris Kramer and Scott Machado. Matt Gatens scored 17 to lead Limoges. On Wednesday, Valencia Basket stayed perfect with a 78-62 home win over PAOK Thessaloniki on Wednesday. PAOK was never able to lead in the game, but rode Valencia's heels to stay within 31-34 shortly after halftime. After that, the hosts pulled away steadily and were never in danger again. Bojan Dubljevic led the winners with 21 points and Luke Sikma had 11 to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Group J

In the visitors’ Eurocup season-opener, ALBA Berlin pulled away in the second half for an 83-67 victory over EA7 Emporio Armani Milan at Mercedez-Benz Arena. The hosts improved to 4-1 against Italian clubs this season with the win. Dragan Milosavljevic starred for the victory with 23 points on 5-of-9 three-point shooting plus 6 assists. Elmedin Kikanovic posted 16 points and 8 rebounds and Will Cherry added 15 points and 8 assists. Aris Thessaloniki dominated Neptunas Klaipeda 84-58 in a one-sided Last 32 opener for both teams. The hosts reeled off a 25-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters to take a 31-5 lead and Neprunas never got closer than 15 the rest of the way. Okaro White scored 19 points and Jerel McNeal 18 for the winners.

Group K

In an all-Turkish opener to Group K, Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir raced past Trabzonspor Medical Park 81-68. Karsiyaka led by double digits during most of the game and its defense never allowed Trabzonspor an easy opening to challenge for the win. New signing Bracey Wright came off Karsiyaka's bench for 25 points to lead all scorers. Dolomiti Energia Trento routed Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 82-63 in an all-Italian club fixture. Trento improved to 5-1 at home this season in a game it controlled from start to finish. The hosts scored the first 5 points en route to a 20-2 advantage, which Reggio Emilia never fully recovered from. Jamarr Sanders made 4 of 7 three-point shots to lead Trento with 16 points and Trent Lockett added 15.

Group L

In its first game back in the Eurocup, Stelmet Zielona Gora defeated MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg 73-82 on Tuesday. After falling behind early and trailing by 3 at halftime, Zielona Gora took charge in the second half, in which it outscored the hosts 32-44. Mateusz Ponitka paced the Polish champs with 14 points and Dejan Borovnjak scored 13. Jon Brockman led Ludwigsburg with 12 points before fouling out. Zenit St Petersburg held off Umana Reyer Venezia 84-86 in a thriller on Wednesday night to improve to 5-1 on the road this season. The game came down to the final possessions and Venice had Josh Owens shot to win it in the closing seconds, but he missed to bring an end to a dramatic affair. Ryan Toolson paced Zenit with 21 points and Zab Dowdell tallied 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Mike Green led Venice with 29 points, including several late baskets and free throws to keep his team in it.

Group M

In its Eurocup debut, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv outlasted Union Olimpija Ljubljana 82-73 at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Olimpija led for much of the first half, but the hosts finished the second quarter on a 10-2 run to hold a 40-35 halftime advantage. Maccabi’s offense clicked in the third quarter with 33 points en route to a 17-point cushion that paved the way to victory. . Taylor Rochestie paced Maccabi with 20 points and Devin Smith scored 19. Unics Kazan topped Nizhny Novgorod 84-74 in an all-Russian battle to start Group M. Quino Colom collected 25 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for Unics while Latavious Williams scored 16 points. The hosts took charge early, led by 15 at halftime and 17 in the third quarter, but Nizhny rallied late to get within 3 with three minutes to play. However Nizhny scored just once in its final four possessions as Unics held on for the win.

Group N

On Tuesday evening, Hungarian champ Szolnoki Olaj led from start to finish in an 86-75 victory over Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari. A 12-0 run to finish the first quarter put the hosts up 23-8 and Sassari never got closer than 6 the rest of the way. Strahinja Milosevic starred with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists, while David Vojvoda paced the Szolnoki attack with 20 points. Stanley Burrell tallied 15 points and 7 assists in his debut. Christian Eyenga scored 23 for Sassari, but made just 1 of 6 free throws. Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul blew out CAI Zaragoza 103-68 on Wednesday for its biggest Eurocup victory ever. With a wave of three-pointers, the hosts scored 61 points between the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach. Sinan Guler hit 5 shots from downtown on his way to 25 points, his Eurocup career high. He was followed by Errick McCollum with 17. Galatasaray shot an incredible 67% on two-point shots (23 for 37), 51% on threes (15 for 29) and 92% at the free throw line (12 of 13).

This new exciting Last 32 phase has just six games, so every one counts. Follow all the action on Eurosport and on Eurocupbasketball.com!

Rakibimizi Tanıyalım: Romanya

http://666kb.com/i/d6kgb4kx0hkhv3vsr.jpg

Şub 18, 2016

2017 FIBA Kadınlar Avrupa Şampiyonası Elemeleri H Grubu’nda yer alan A Milli Kadın Takımımız, gruptaki üçüncü maçında bu akşam Romanya ile karşılaşacak.

Daha önce 17 kez Romanya mücadele eden A Milli Kadın Takımımız, ilk kez 2 Ağustos 1966 tarihinde Balkan Şampiyonası’nda rakibinin karşısına çıktı.

The Take

On Wednesday, Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul welcomes Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas for their first semifinal game. The only previous times these two teams met was in 2008, when Galatasaray ousted Gran Canaria in the Eurocup Eighthfinals, thanks to a 99-74 win at home in Game 1, and proceeded that season to its only previous Eurocup Semifinals appearance.

Galatasaray has a 9-1 record on its home floor this season, and has won its last six games by an average of 24.8 points. In the eighthfinals and quarterfinals this season, Galatasaray has played the return leg at home, and in both series overcame a Game 1 deficit. Now, it faces Gran Canaria, a team that has seven-game road winning streak, and an 8-2 record away from home.

Gran Canaria has won by double digits on the road in both Games 1 of the eighthfinals and quarterfinals series. Coached by Aito Garcia Reneses, Gran Canaria was the Eurocup runner-up from last season, and during this campaign it has had one of the best offenses in the competition.

The team ranks third in scoring (85.3 ppg.), assists (19.4 apg.), three-point shots made (10.5 per game), and it has the second highest average performance index rating (97.4) for the entire Eurocup campaign.

The Take

Gran Canaria is looking for its second consecutive Eurocup finals and would become the first team to achieve that if it overcomes its 14-point deficit at home.

Galatasaray can also make history by becoming the first-ever Turkish team to make it to the Eurocup Finals.

Galatasaray defeated Gran Canaria 89-75 in Game 1 behind 18 points and 10 rebounds from Chuck Davis. As many as five Galatasaray players scored at least 13 points in Game 1, in which the hosts outrebounded Gran Canaria by 43-34.

Gran Canaria must improve its two-point shooting percentage (41.7% in Game 1 to Galatasaray's 68.2%) and rely on its strength at its very own Gran Canaria arena, where it won by 15 points or more as many as 5 times this season.

Galatasaray has won just 1 of its last 6 road games but has only lost by 15 or more points once in this Eurocup season - 85-68 against CAI Zaragoza.

Davis needs 7 points to become the third-best scorer in Eurocup history.

94-81

Galatasaray survives OT thriller to KO Gran Canaria, reach finals

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul will play for its first continental trophy after surviving overtime to knock out last season’s runner-up, Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas, on Wednesday in the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria won the game 94-81, but lost the series by a single point on aggregate since Galatasaray had won 75-89 a week earlier in the series opener. Galatasaray will face Strasbourg in the Eurocup Finals. Galatasaray held the aggregate lead for much of the game, but Gran Canaria used an 8-0 fourth-quarter run fueled by Xavi Rabaseda to tie the game on aggregate with four minutes to go. D.J. Seeley had the hosts up 1 with a minute remaining to set up a wild finish. Vladimir Micov’s basket with 2.1 seconds left tied the game and set up overtime. Errick McCollum made 3 free throws in the final minute, including 1 for the aggregate lead with 17.8 seconds left. Gran Canaria got the last ball to Albert Oliver, who drove into the paint, but ran into Micov who rejected his shot in the closing seconds to seal Galatasaray’s a ticket to the finals. Micov finished with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 1 huge block to lead Galatasaray, McCollum added 16 points, Stephane Lasme 11 and Chuck Davis scored 9 and in doing so moved past Rado Rancik for third place on the Eurocup’s career coring charts with 1,130 points. D.J. Seeley paced Gran Canaria with 23 points and 5 assists, Alen Omic scored 16 and Kevin Pangos 14 in what proved to be a pyric victory.

Lasme put back his own miss to open the scoring before Eulis Baez got the hosts rolling. The offense were hot from the start with the teams trading shots and neither leading by more than a basket for six minutes, at which point McCollum put Galatasaray ahead 16-20 (and 91-109 on aggregate) . A pair of threes by Seeley – the second turning into a 4-point play – tied put the hosts ahead 25-24 for the game (but behind 100-113 for the series. Micov restored a small Galatasaray advantage, 27-29 (and 102-118 on aggregate) after 10 minutes. Lasme reached 10 individual points with the first basket of the second quarter. Gran Canaria made a move with a Seeley three and 5 points from Omic in an 8-0 run to lead 35-31 (and get within 10 for the series). Seeley’s next basket further cut into the difference, but Curtis Jerrells tied the game with 5 straight points and Caleb Green added a triple for a 41-42 Galatasaray lead (and 116-131 aggregate lead). Pangos restored a slim Gran Canaria advantage for the game and Brad Newley beat the halftime buzzer to make it 48-44 (and 123-133 on aggregate).

Pangos opened the second half with a triple and soon added a basket-plus-foul to get Gran Canaria within 6 points in the series (129-135). Micov responded with a triple, but Omic kept the momentum with the hosts. Baskets by Sinan Guler and Blake Schilb narrowed the gap only for Sasu Salin to reel off 5 quick points. A Pablo Aguilar triple had the arena rocking at 66-54 (and 141-143 on aggregate). After a basket-plus-foul for Davis, Aguilar split free throws to end the third quarter at 67-57 (and 142-146 on aggregate). Davis scored a minute into the fourth quarter to move into third place on the all-time Eurocup scoring charts. His next basket closed the deficit in the game to 6 (and put Galatasaray up 8 on aggregate). But 5 points from Xavi Rabaseda followed by an Albert Oliver triple gave Gran Canaria a 76-62 lead and a 151-151 tie on aggregate with four minutes to go. After McCollum and Seeley traded free throws, Omic gave Gran Canaria its first aggregate lead. The tide turned with a McCollum score and Micov free throws, but Omic tied the aggregate again and a Seeley three made it 85-70 (and 160-159 on aggregate with a minute to go. The teams traded shots again and an Aguilar three with 6.3 seconds left put the hosts ahead 90-74 (and 165-163 on aggregate). Galatasaray called a timeout and got the ball to Micov, whose basket with 2.1 seconds left tied the series. Oliver’s attempted three at the buzzer bounced off the front rim and the series headed to an extra session.

McCollum started the overtime with free throws and Seeley scored for the hosts. Neither team scored for more than three minutes until a Baez slam off an inbounds pass made it 94-78 (and 169-167 on aggregate) with 1:16 remaining in overtime. Gran Canaria missed a chance to add to its lead when Seeley missed a pair of free throws. McCollum responded with foul shots of his own to tie the series again. McCollum got back to the line with 17.8 seconds left and split shots to give his team a 1-point aggregate edge. After a timeout, Gran Canaria got the ball to Oliver, who drove into the paint, but ran into Micov who rejected his shot in the closing seconds to seal Galatasaray’s a ticket to the finals.

Eurocup Finals at a glance:

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul vs. Strasbourg

Galatasaray built a team with the weaponry to challenge for Eurocup glory and now there is only one opponent standing in its way. Coach Ergin Ataman has the competition’s No. 2 scorer for the season in guard Errick McCollum (18.7 ppg., 3.7 apg.) – who leads in performance index rating with 22.0 per game, and the Eurocup’s all-time No. 3 scorer coming off the bench in Chuck Davis (8.2 ppg.), yet it was another player who took charge in the decisive Game 2 of the semifinals;

Vladimir Micov (13 ppg.) shined with 21 points. And it’s not all offense; Stephane Lasme (11.1 ppg., 6.4 rpg., 1.3 bpg.) is second in the Eurocup in blocked shots this season and swingman Blake Schilb (12.2 ppg., 44.2% 3FG, 3.8 apg.) contributes everywhere. Add in the defense of captain Sinan Guler (8.9 ppg., 3.6 apg.) and it’s understandable how this team is standing where it is. Another significant advantage Galatasaray boasts in Game 2 at home; this team has gone 10-1 in the Eurocup in Istanbul this season, including seven straight by double figures (with an average margin of victory of 23.3 points!).

After competing in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague in three of the previous four seasons, not only are Galatasaray and its passionate fans hungry to get back to the promised land, but overflowing with the experience to handle the big games that could get it there.

Strasbourg has shown great growth over the course of the season and arrives to the Eurocup Finals stronger than ever. Coach Vincent Collet’s squad went into the final game of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular Season with a shot at the Top 16 before falling at the hands of defending champion Real Madrid. Once in the Eurocup, Strasbourg won its first four games in clinching a ticket to the eighthfinals, but then lost big man and rebounding leader Matt Howard (8.9 ppg., 8.1 rpg.) for a month with a broken bone in his hand.

Still the team persevered and eliminated Nizhny Novgorod in a double-overtime thriller in the second leg of the quarterfinals. Howard is back to give the team a mighty frontline together with centers Romain Duport and Bangaly Fofana, who combined for 18 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 34 minutes over the elimination rounds. There is great balance in the backcourt with Rod Beaubois (13.3 ppg.), Mardy Colllins (13.2 ppg., 4.3 apg.) and three-point ace Jeremy Leloup (8.5 ppg., 43.9% 3FG) providing offense off the bench. Forward Kyle Weems (12 ppg.) has been a mismatch headache all season long.

Like in all home-and-away series, the home court advantage plays a role, but Strasbourg has turned that adage on its head. Not only is the team 5-1 away from home in the Eurocup this season – with an average margin of victory of 13 points, but in the second legs of both the eighthfinals and semifinals, it overturned Game 1 losses with victories on the road.

Abdi İpekçi'de AVRUPA ŞAMPİYONLUĞU günü :super:

http://666kb.com/i/d8fyq8fwwjpehuxkb.jpg

The Take

A new Eurocup champion will be crowned at Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall, as visiting Strasbourg will step on court with a four-point lead over host Galatasaray. Expect nothing but an outstanding basketball atmosphere to match the importance of this game, as Abdi Ipekci sold out just minutes after tickets went on sale. Strasbourg downed Galatasaray 66-62 in Game 1 behind 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists from team captain Louis Campbell. In what was its worst scoring night this season, Galatasaray hit just 3-for-18 three-point shots and picked up 15 turnovers.

Galatasaray is 10-1 at home this season, winning its last seven games by double figures with an average margin of victory of 23.3 points. At the same time, Strasbourg has only lost once on the road since it jo*ned the 2015-16 Eurocup from the Euroleague at mid-season and is 3-0 away in elimination series. So, Strasbourg has been a road warrior but Galatasaray has been almost indestructible at home.

Two experienced head coaches Galatasaray's Ergin Ataman and Strasbourg's Vincent Collet guarantee a great tactical battle. Strasbourg and Galatasaray will not only battle to become the first team in their respective countries to lift the Eurocup trophy, but also to earn the right to play in the 2016-17 Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Follow the game LIVE on Eurosport 2 and as always, right here on Eurocupbasketball.com! .

Strasbourg head coach Vincent Collet often plays twin playmakers, with two of them on the court at all time: Campbell and Rodrigue Beaubois play a big role, but Paul Lacombe is equally important. All three must try to again stop Eurocup MVP Errick McCollum, who was limited to 8 points on 3-for-11 shooting in Game 1.

Curtis Jerrells and Sinan Guler will also see playing time at point guard for the Game 2 hosts. Galatasaray relies on Blake Schilb and Vladimir Micov at the forward spots. Micov will use his experience and deep range against a good defender like Matt Howard, while Guler and Schilb will not have it easy against Mardy Collins and Kyle Weems, two big swingmen with all-around skills. Strasbourg has a size advantage in the paint with Bangaly Fofana and Romain Duport, but Chuck Davis who became the second-ranked scorer in Eurocup history in Game 1 and Stephane Lasme are athletic, experienced players ready to battle anyone.

Galatasaray must try to play up-tempo and rely on a sea of red-and-yellow fans to be their sixth man in this game. Strasbourg must keep control and play defense just the way they did in Game 1. The Eurocup winner will also earn the right to play in the 2016-17 Turkish Airlines Euroleague, which is an extra motivation for what promises to be a very intense, exciting showdown!

Galatasaray captures Eurocup crown!

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul is the 2016 Eurocup champion! Galatasaray held off a stiff challenge in the final minute to defeat Strasbourg 78-67 at a sold-out Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall and win the first continental trophy in the club’s 105-year history. Strasbourg won the opening leg of the two-game, total points series 66-62 in France and entered the final minute of regulation down 2 points on aggregate, but Galatasaray scored the final 5 points, including a steal and layup by Sinan Guler in the closing seconds, to win the series by a total score of 140-133. Stephane Lasme was voted Eurocup Finals MVP after posting 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks for the winners. Errick McCollum also scored 16, while Guler tallied 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals and Blake Schilb added 11 points. Mardy Collins paced Strasbourg with 16 points and 5 assists and Louis Campbell scored 10.

First quarter: Hosts quickly erase deficit, take lead

Galatasaray head coach Ergin Ataman opted to start Goksenin Koksal to guard Campbell in the opening minutes. Vlado Micov got Galatasaray going with a three-pointer and Schilb added a triple off the dribble to put his team ahead 6-0 in the game (and 68-66 in the series). Collins stepped up with a close jumper, but Guler bettered that with a bomb from downtown and Micov added a jumper, which caused Strasbourg to call timeout at 11-2 (and 73-68 on aggregate). Schilb kept pushing Galatasaray with a close jumper and Koksal hit free throws to boost the lead to 15-2. Collins downed a step-back triple and answered Guler's layup-plus-foul with a driving basket. Kyle Weems shined with a put-back layup, bringing Strasbourg within 18-9 (and 80-75 on aggregate). Guler struck from beyond the arc, added a wild coast-to-coast layup and found Lasme for a dunk that boosted Galatasaray's lead to 12 for the series. Romain Duport hit his trademark three-pointer from the top of the key and Collins added a driving layup to bring the visitors within 25-14 (and 87-80 on aggregate). Chuck Davis and Duport traded jumpers to fix the score at 27-16 (and 89-82 on aggregate) after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Strasbourg bounces back

Davis took over with an up-and-under layup early in the quarter, but Matt Howard quickly answered with a reverse layup. Davis kept going for Galatasaray with free throws and McCollum matched Howard's close basket with a layup to keep the hosts way in control at 33-20 (and 95-86 on aggregate). Bangaly Fofana briefly silenced the crowd with an alley-oop slam, but Lasme stepped up with foul shots. Weems dunked off a steal, but a two-handed slam by Lasme prompted Strasbourg head coach Vincent Collet to stop the game at 37-24 (and 99-90 on aggregate). Weems made 3 from the foul line and a wild diving steal by Campbell sent Rodrigue Beaubois to close the gap. Beaubois kept going with a bomb from downtown and Campbell added a driving layup that put Strasbourg ahead in the series, 99-100. Schilb rescued Galatasaray with a turnaround jumper off a timeout and Micov added a layup off a steal to give his team fresh air. Schilb scored around the basket, but a free throw by Campbell kept Strasbourg within 43-35 (and 105-101 on aggregate) at halftime.

Third quarter: a back-and-forth battle

Koksal nailed a corner three-pointer immediately after the break, but Fofana quickly stepped up with a put-back slam. Lasme buried a five-meter jumper and Koksal hit another triple, this time from the opposite corner, to make it 51-37 (and 113-103 on aggregate). Fofana took over with an off-balance three-point play and a big block on Guler. Lasme rescued Galatasaray with another mid-range jumper, but Campbell matched it with a put-back layup and soon sank a one-handed shot in the lane to give Strasbourg hope at 53-44 (and 115-110 on aggregate). Campbell drilled a bomb from downtown to cap a 0-7 run in which he had all the points. Schilb tried to change things with a backdoor layup and Lasme added a close basket, but Collins and Matt Howard hit free throws to make it 57-51 (and 119-117 on aggregate). McCollum buried a mid-range jumper and followed that with free throws, however Duport’s three brought Strasbourg within 61-54 (and 123-120 on aggregate) at the end of the third quarter.

Fourth quarter: McCollum, Guler turn back Strasbourg

Paul Lacombe’s jumper in the lane on the first possession of the quarter brought Strasbourg within 1 on aggregate. McCollum responded from long range for Galatasaray, then pulled up for a sweet jumper making it 66-56 (and 128-122 on aggregate). After a Strasbourg timeout, McCollum blocked Beaubois from behind, but on the ensuing possession, Lacombe blasted a three-pointer of his own. McCollum then fed Lasme for a foul-line jumper and a layup inside. Howard split free throws for Strasbourg before a broken play led to McCollum striking with a triple from the corner to make it 73-60 (and 135-126 on aggregate) with five minutes left. But to that big shot, after a Strasbourg timeout, Collins responded with another to beat the shot clock from way downtown before Campbell fed Fofana for a slam. After another block by Fofana, Collins had his fastbreak layup goaltended and made the accompanying foul shot to make it 73-67 (and 135-133 on aggregate) with less than three minutes left. With 1:20 to play, Galatasaray got the ball to McCollum, but he missed a fall-back jumper just as Collins did at the other end entering the final minute. But McCollum was fouled rebounding the miss by Collins and knocked down both free throws with 43 seconds left to give Galatasaray a 4-point aggregate edge. After another timeout, Duport's open triple went in and out and this time Guler was fouled rebounding the miss, but only made 1 of 2 free throws with 29 seconds left. Then Guler stole a pass and went the other way for a layup which sealed the victory and sent Galatasaray into the history books as the first Turkish champion of the Eurocup!

Sinan Guler, Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul

http://www.eurocupbasketball.com/eurocup/features/interviews/i/6ul4qqowf96ya36b

Apr 29, 2016 by Javier Gancedo, Eurocupbasketball.com

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul is the new Eurocup champion, allowing a good number of veteran players to celebrate their first-ever continental trophy. None of them took center stage the way team captain Sinan Guler did. Once he took the trophy, he told everyone to be silent a second before he lifted the trophy, making Galatasaray players and fans jump up and down in Abdi Ipekci like never before. It was a special moment for the most decorated member in one of the biggest families in Turkish basketball. Guler did more than lift the trophy, too: he scored 11 points in the first quarter of the championship game and then making all the right plays down the stretch to seal a historical victory. He finished the game with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in over 37 minutes. Guler sees the big picture, and thinks this could be a key moment in Turkish basketball history, as he told us in this Eurocupbasketball.com interview he did in his car, with the Eurocup trophy by his side. "We are on the edge of winning both the Eurocup and the Euroleague as the Turkish basketball community," Guler told Eurocupbasketball.com. "That is already a historical moment by itself and I am hoping that it happens, so that Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, very big sports rivals, make history together and take Turkish basketball to a higher level, higher standards."

Hello, Sinan. Congratulations on winning the Eurocup! It is the greatest achievement for a Turkish basketball club, ever. How does it feel to be part of this success?

"Thank you very much. It is nothing but pride. First of all, I remember the whole situation of leaving Euroleague, going back down to the Eurocup. It was a big, ambitious challenge for both the club and Coach Ataman. As a captain of the team, winning the Eurocup also became my challenge, because I played seven years of Euroleague. Leaving the Euroleague and playing the Eurocup again is a tough transition, mentally and psychologically. I think that all the players that played the Euroleague the year before felt the same way. It was a great accomplishment and I am very proud to be part of a team that was successful."

Galatasaray will turn 111 years old soon. How does it feel to belong to club history after getting one of its biggest wins ever?

"It is a huge thing for the club, of course. At the same time, it feels great to be a part of an elite group in the history of the club, those who were successful in European competitions. In 2000, our soccer team won the UEFA Cup title and our wheelchair basketball team has won many cups in Europe. Our women's basketball team has won the Eurocup and the Euroleague, so being part of its elite group of people in Galatasaray history make us really proud."

You have been really strong at home this season, 11 wins in 12 games. That has been the main key to your success?

"Abdi Ipekci is more than our home, basically. Our fans make playing basketball really comfortable for us. At the same time, they make it even harder for other teams when they come in. I think that being able to capitalize on our advantages as a basketball team in that environment, that atmosphere in Abdi Ipekci, was a big key for us. We found the way to be strong, be together, every single player. That has been another key to our success. Every player on this team has great talent and great roles for the team and the last game shows every bit of that: everybody contributed."

That home court advantage was more visible than ever in the Finals. Hundreds of Galatasaray fans worked on previous days to generate a great pre-game atmosphere - giants banners and everything. How was the experience for you as a player?

"I must be honest with you. You see me in every Euroleague and Eurocup game. I always come out on the court 90 minutes before the game, shoot around a little bit and feel the atmosphere. I have been a part of Turkish basketball as a professional for 10 years, playing for Galatasaray for the last three years... and to be honest, I am so glad that I got out to the court at that time. There were about 5,000 people already at the arena. I was shooting and my legs were shaking with excitement! As a 33-year-old, to feel that again is amazing. Getting out there and feeling our fans' excitement helped me a lot when I came back on the court with the team half an hour before the game. That feeling itself is irreplaceable. I don't have enough words to explain it!"

And it definitely helped you start the game really well. You had 11 points in the first quarter and got your team going after a poor performance in Game 1. Did you feed off that energy your fans gave you?

"Well, of course. I think that basketball, even when it is faster and more dynamic, it is a bit like chess sometimes. From the first possession, when I found Vlado (Micov) and he hit the shot, we know it was going to be a different game. I believe that, as a team, we started in such a way, with such energy, with me as the point guard at the time, I knew that I had to lead the team to some extent. I had a rush of energy with our fans and the atmosphere and everything. Not playing well the first game was a big motivation, of course. Basically, that game was in my head for five days, from the morning it finished in Strasbourg up to the game starting in Istanbul. That game and my performance had a big effect on my motivation for Game 2 in Istanbul."

You also had some critical plays down the stretch, including the steal and layup that sealed the outcome. Did your overall experience as a team make the difference in those final minutes?

"First of all, I have to say that Errick (McCollum) played amazing in the fourth quarter, so I have to give him props for that. He lifted us up when most of us on the court didn't have the legs to produce as much as we wanted to. Everybody was so focused on winning that the shots were not going in! We were moving the ball well, but it wasn't going our way. And I think Errick did a tremendous job at that point, keeping us alive in the game. All of our experience and energy stayed on the defensive side on the court, because we were focused on defense, making sure they didn't get as close to us as they wanted. In the end, that possession that you talked about, I stole the ball from Weems, passed it to Vlado and Errick hit a corner three, I think it was crucial. That gave us another psychological edge in this game."

Stephane Lasme was the Eurocup Finals MVP. It has been a long season for him, battling foul problems in the elimination rounds while being your main reference in the paint. What's your take on his final series and his season?

"First of all, I wouldn't be happier if I had won the Finals MVP instead of him, because his heart and positivity kept this team together from Day 1. Whatever happens off the court, his attitude in every practice and every game helped us stay together. He was the glue that we needed throughout the whole season and I think that I am very happy to see a very good friend, not just a teammate, but a friend, finishing the Eurocup season like that, the way that he wanted. His attitude and ambition helped us build a good team."

You won every elimination series on points difference. It shows a lot of character. Which were the toughest moments for you guys?

"I think there were two tough moments in the whole thing. The first one was against Bayern in Munich. It was a very tough situation. We had a decent score, being down by 4 with a few minutes left. Errick and I made two difficult mistakes, which made it a 10-point game in the end. That was a very tough moment because we knew Bayern Munich was one of the top candidates to win this Eurocup. The second one was on the road against Gran Canaria. I watched Pablo Aguilar's highlights and he hit a critical three-point shot, for them and for us. It is a very tough shot to hit: I haven't seen myself play that much defense this season, to be honest! He hit that shot but then Vlado answered with a layup and finished the game with a block. That whole situation was a key point in our season, not only because we would have been eliminated if both things didn't happen, but also because that gave us character going forward."

As a team captain, you had the privilege of lifting the Eurocup trophy. What do you remember about it? Did you do anything you had planned in advance?

"For the best part, it was the heat of the moment. Like I said just now, I was re-living the situation for a week, especially the cup part. I had it in my head and hoped that moment would come. I had this vision, this thought of me lifting the cup. I had to fully believe that we would win the Eurocup. Most of the things I did when I got the trophy was the heat of the moment, the energy we had with our fans. I wanted to embrace that moment."

I was in the locker room after the game, when Ataman said this is 'the kind of win you tell your sons in the future'. Do you see yourself talking about this Eurocup trophy in 20, 25 years time?

"First of all, I have to say that we are on the edge winning both the Eurocup and the Euroleague as the Turkish basketball community. That is already a historical moment by itself and I am hoping that it happens, so that Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, very big sports rivals, make history together and take Turkish basketball to a higher level, higher standards. That is a very big goal for us right now. Second, the game itself, the situation, is great. I am arriving to the stadium with the Eurocup trophy right now! I think that the excitement of looking at the trophy right now is something that I am going to share with my family, with kids who play basketball in Turkey. I am hoping it is going to be one of the biggest accomplishments of Galatasaray and Turkish basketball, but not the last!

Can we see the trophy in your car?

"I am sending a selfie right now!"

Jun 27, 2016 by Euroleague.net

A total of 40 clubs from 13 countries were proposed by the Euroleague Commercial Assets A-Licence Shareholder Clubs on Monday to compete in the two most elite competitions in European club basketball, the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the Eurocup, for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

The list is headed by current champion CSKA Moscow and includes seven more clubs that have won the title: FC Barcelona Lassa, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Olympiacos Piraeus, Panathinaikos Athens, Real Madrid, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Zalgiris Kaunas.

Final Four, İstanbulda :super:

http://666kb.com/i/dcs13x2eowuuouor0.png

Eyl 27, 2016

EuroCup Women Preview: Wednesday 26 October 2016

http://666kb.com/i/ddjyd93h8edmti77z.png

ISTANBUL (EuroCup Women 2017) - There promises to be an intense start to EuroCup Women 2017 as no fewer than 22 teams hit the floor on the first night of the new Regular Season.

For Galatasaray, it is not exactly unchartered territory having previously won the competition back in 2009, but it will seem a little unfamiliar after seven straight years in EuroLeague Women which also harvested a glorious title.

It’s a new-look team that will take to the floor in their Group C opener against TTT Riga, with new head coach Marina Maljkovic hoping that she can translate her success at the international level with Serbia to the Istanbul based giants.

Much of Galatasaray’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of fans’ favourite Isil Alben, one of the few players to remain and she will form an exciting backcourt combination with the electrifying Moriah Jefferson.

It’s been an emotional few weeks for Samsun and after booking their place in the Regular Season with a win against Chevakata, they head back onto Russian soil to face Dynamo Novosibirsk in the other Group C game which will be the first of the new campaign.

One of the most intriguing ties of opening night could come at Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje who will clash with a Maccabi Bnot Ashdod team who have piled the talent high in the summer, recently adding to an already talented roster with the addition of Rio bronze medallist Dajana Butulija.

In Group B, there is a change of name for Bellonu Agu – but not purpose as they bid to propel themselves to a third Final in the competition. And, they will have three reigning WNBA champions in Ann Wauters, Jelena Dubljevic and Chelsea Gray to help them.

Although it remains to be seen if they will be involved in their first game against PINKK-Pesci 424, with Tanisha Wright likely to be their main turbo.

Good Angels Kosice will hit the floor in Group D and play in EuroCup Women for the first time in a decade when they lock horns against an Aluinvent Miskolc side who won their first ten outings last season, but have struggled so far in the Hungarian League.

Another club struggling domestically after a couple of big losses early in the campaign are Ragusa and the Italians will make their debut when they land in Group E at Namur. Much of the onus will be on Olympic Finalists Laura Nicholls and Astou Ndour.

The pride will be flowing at Rutronik Stars Keltern as the newcomers entertain Liga Femenina leaders, Spar CityLift Girona in Group F. The German outfit were very convincing in the Qualifiers and will be looking to the likes of Jasmine Thomas and Marina Markovic for further inspiration - although they must pay attention to Girona’s Greek forward, Artemis Spanou. In the same pool, Castors Braine make their return to the EuroCup Women Regular Season against Clube Uniao of Portugal.

There's a EuroCup Women winner hitting the hardwood in Group G when Celine Dumerc suits up for Basket Landes in an all-French duel with first-timers Basket Nice 06. Elfic Fribourg made some serious noise in the Qualifiers and their reward is a Regular Season schedule which opens up against Umana Reyer Venezia.

Finally, German champions TSV 1880 Wasserburg will take what has become their customary place in the tournament in Group H where they will play Lulea BBK of Sweden.
