mukemmel yarisdi bence.
Benim adamin Rainkonen gecen seneki gibi yine teknik problemlerle ugrasdi, ama sonuncu cikmasina ragmen 3 yapti.
Bu sene cok zevli olacak gibi...

Roseberg'e dikkat diyorum! Coulthard'la yaptığı kısa süreli mücadele çok iyi idi.

Kendimi bildim bileli McLaren'i tutarım ama şu gelecek sezonda Alonso'nun McLaren'e gelecek olması fena halde üzdü beni.

Bu arada ben MS'i pek sevmem.

Sizin yerleriniz nereler?

NTV-MSNBC
Güncelleme: 21:35 TSİ 14 Nisan 2006 CumaİSTANBUL - 7 dünya şampiyonluğu bulunan Alman pilotun, emekli mi olacağı yoksa Ferrari ile devam mı edeceği tartışılırken, Schumacher’in menajeri Willi Webber, Renault’nun patronu Flavio Briatore’nin ünlü sürücü ile ilgilendiğini söyledi.

Webber, “Flavio Briatore ile konuştuk. Schumacher’in kariyerine devam edip etmeyeceğine karar vermeden kimseyle konuşmayacağız dedim.

Formula 1 severlerin MotoGP yide izlemelerini tavsiye ederim.

cnnturk

cart serisinde mucadele etti. orada indi500 yarısını kazanınca dikkatleri cekti. ben eurosporttan montoyayı seyrederdim ara sıra o zaman cok asırı hızlı bir pilot degildi.

Ferrari has pumped in another $26 million to boost Michael Schumacher’s charge for an eighth world championship in 2006.

At Jerez last Friday, in preparation for the upcoming French grand prix, the 37-year-old racer set a new test lap record with a rejuvenated car. Although Ross Brawn insists that it is not a ‘B’ specification, the heavily revised ‘248′ features a new engine cover, front wing and engine, packing an extra 20 hp.

The tabloid daily also described new Bridgestone tyres for Magny Cours as ’super-rubber’, and said team principal Todt had asked Ferrari staff to work extra shifts at Maranello to implement the upgrade.

Ferrari are heading towards a dream driver lineup pairing Michael Schumacher alongside Kimi Räikkönen for 2007. That’s the opinion of rival team principal Sir Frank Williams….

‘Ferrari have a massive budget and probably a $60m driver bill next year - that’s the way it looks,’ Williams told Speed TV. Hinting at Schumacher-Räikkönen, despite rumours linking the latter Finn with Renault, he added: ‘You know what I’m talking about; the two drivers.

Renault

Pat Symonds, Executive Director of Engineering: "Fernando's race this afternoon was essentially determined by the time he had completed the opening lap. He fought hard to find a way past Massa, but wasn't able to do it and therefore lost any chance he might have had of challenging Schumacher. We had gone into the race with an open mind about doing two or three stops, but having lost time in the first stint, it was obvious that two stops was the way to go to ensure we at least finished second. Giancarlo's race was always going to be hard from seventh, and the graining he experienced in the second stint meant he was unable to exploit the strategy to make up ground. We are now looking forward to Germany, where we will have substantial revisions to the aerodynamics and engine. We lost two races to Ferrari earlier in the season, and bounced back strongly. That's what we intend to do again, beginning in Hockenheim."

Flavio Briatore, Managing Director: "This turned out to be a difficult weekend for us, and Fernando got the best possible result from it. Giancarlo struggled in qualifying and in the race too, but he still scored valuable points. Of course, it is disappointing not to win the race in front of the 6000 Renault personnel who were at the race today, but we are staying calm about the championship and we still have a good advantage. The team is working hard to develop the car and engine at Enstone and Viry, and we know what is coming in the next few weeks. Michelin will be pushing even harder to regain the advantage in Hockenheim, and I am confident we can come out on top in Germany."

McLaren-Mercedes
Ron Dennis, Team Principal: "We had a much more competitive pace today which indicates the continued improvement of the car. Unfortunately Bridgestone had an advantage and we will work hard with Michelin to reverse the situation at Hockenheim. We varied our race strategy in an attempt to improve the outcome of the race but to no avail. Both Kimi and Pedro drove well and as always we look forward to getting better results at the next grand prix."

Norbert Haug, Mercedes Motorsport Director: "Our grid positions were decisive for the outcome of our race, the pace was better than in qualifying. So it was very difficult to improve on sixth and eighth despite the fact that our lap times were among the fastest of the Michelin runners. Kimi was the second placed Michelin car, but we want to do better. Pedro put in a good performance as well, however after the start he got stuck behind a slower car for the first third of the race. Once he could run free he was immediately one and a half seconds quicker than before. We are now looking forward to our home grand prix at Hockenheim in a fortnight and will work hard to further improve our performance."

Ferrari

Jean Todt, Team Principal: "This is a great result, picking up first and third places with Michael and Felipe respectively. We knew this would be a very tough race in which tyre performance would be critical and that prediction turned out to be true. The team did an excellent job, the drivers drove very well, the cars proved reliable and the Bridgestone tyres were up to the task in hand. The combination of all these elements means that both championships are still up for grabs. There are seven races remaining this season and as we have always said, we will do all we can to meet our targets. This victory is particularly significant for me: even if I am a European, living in Italy, I am happy to celebrate my thirteen years with this brilliant Ferrari team with a win here in France. In Maranello, we have managed to put together a group of people with great qualities, supported by exceptional technical and commercial partners and it is nice to be here together with them to celebrate this success."

Ross Brawn, Technical Director: "It's a really great result at the end of a weekend when the whole team did a great job. Right from the start of the weekend, we had opted for a rather aggressive tyre choice, which paid off from yesterday's qualifying. Then today we prepared and managed the tyres during the race. Actually, they were very good and on Michael's car, fantastic. We lost a bit of performance with Felipe from around half distance and we need to understand why. It was a shame, as his pace early on was very strong. Now we have to keep on moving forward, trying to improve race by race."/p>

Toyota

Tsutomu Tomita, Team Principal: "It is difficult not to be disappointed today because even if that was one of our better finishes of the year, both of our cars had the pace to be on the podium today. We made a very good tyre choice and because of the consistency of our Bridgestone tyres we were able to opt for a two-stop strategy today, which was the correct move. That, combined with the progress we have made on the car, led to a very competitive race weekend from us. Everything ran smoothly from Friday practice right through qualifying yesterday but in the end we failed to make the podium because we are still having some reliability issues. Today we had a problem with the left rear wheel nut at Ralf's pit stop which cost us more than ten seconds while Jarno had to retire with a leak on the braking system. So we have to say sorry to Jarno and well done to Ralf who did a very good drive. We are going in the right direction and we will push to develop further. Our pace is improving with every race and we are still chasing our first win this season."

Williams-Cosworth

Sam Michael, Technical Director: "We had problems with our tyres running over temperature. We didn't see any sign of it in practice so it caught us out in the race. We then had a wheel rim failure on Mark's car so we retired him early as he had too much damage. We will need to look into both of these issues to ensure they don't occur again. It was going to be hard for Nico to get in the points from the back of the grid and we then needed to bring him in for an unscheduled stop as a precautionary measure following the problems with Mark. Both cars had great starts and Mark defended well against Pedro de la Rosa."

Simon Corbyn, Cosworth: "No Cosworth problems today for either Mark or Nico. Both CA2006 Series 6 engines will be good second event engines for Hockenheim."

Honda
Gil de Ferran, Sporting Director: "This was a difficult weekend for us. Rubens had a failure early in the race, as did Jenson in the later stages, something we obviously will investigate and address. Jenson fought hard all day from his low grid position, maintaining an impressive rhythm throughout, with good strategy calls and clean fast stops gaining a couple of positions. Despite these positives, we come out of France disappointed on one hand, but on the other, we are even more determined to turn things around."

Red Bull-Ferrari

Christian Horner, Sporting Director: "Having qualified ninth, to finish ninth, just outside of the points, is the worst possible result because ultimately we take nothing away from the event. But, we got two more cars to the finish and we ran competitively with the BMWs and the Williams again. Once again three teams dominated the top eight and we were genuinely contenders for points. Christian lost some ground at the start and I think the place that David lost to Heidfeld on the first lap was a decisive moment between scoring a point or not. We'll keep pushing and trying to build on the last few races as we move to the next European events."

Sauber-BMW
Dr. Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director: "It was a typical Magny Cours race with not a lot of overtaking and few incidents. In view of this our hopes of climbing from midfield to the front were limited. Despite this Nick scored a point from 11th on the grid and Jacques made up five positions. Taking into account the starting positions, this is an acceptable result. This track also demonstrated there is a significant gap to the top of the field. Before Hockenheim we will work hard on the development of the car."

Willy Rampf, Technical Director Chassis: "As it is difficult to overtake here and considering our cars' grid positions, the only sure way to improve our positions was during pit stops. The championship point was well earned. Being realistic about Jacques' chances, there was no hope of him getting points from 16th on the grid, although his overtaking manoeuvre was very good. Both Jacques and Nick drove consistently in a race during which we had no technical problems. We are working hard to improve the car's performance for Hockenheim."

MF1-Toyota
Colin Kolles, Managing Director: "Unfortunately, Tiago had a problem with his car that prevented him from finishing, which is a shame, because both our cars had strong pace all weekend. Christijan drove a good race and even though he had a gearbox problem, he was still only 4.48 seconds behind Rosberg at the finish. The rest of our rivals were not too far ahead, either. We are making progress, but we have to keep pushing to gain positions."

Johnny Herbert, Sporting Relations Manager: "Considering the circumstances, we did a pretty good job this weekend. We had genuine race pace, which I think could have ended up being better had we not run into the problems that cropped up. The final result isn't really an indication of where we are, because in terms of performance, it was one of our best efforts of the season. I think it's another step forward, one that we can take that into the next round in Hockenheim and hopefully build on."

James Key, Technical Director: "It wasn't a bad afternoon in terms of lap times, etc., but not good for our final result, really. Christijan was racing with a competitive pack of cars - I think there were seven cars all challenging for 12th place, at one point - but sadly, we had an issue during our pit stop that lost him a fair amount of time and dropped him behind that group. But he did a good job to catch up to them toward the end and run competitively for the duration, even with the problems he had. That's somewhat satisfying, but as I said yesterday, we need to stay with them to be in a position to race. Tiago had a problem during the race that led to his retirement, which we're investigating now. Hopefully, we'll figure out what the problem is and be in good shape heading into our test in Jerez where we'll have a lot of test items in the programme. We can take heart from the performance we've shown this weekend, but we need to improve our track position, which is our main problem right now."

Toro Rosso-Cosworth

Franz Tost, Team Principal: "Both drivers had a difficult day: overnight, Scott developed serious back pain and trouble breathing as a result of his Friday crash. He was seen by a doctor, had an X-ray and our physio team worked on him. He decided to start the race and I think he drove his best race of the season. Tonio had to start from the back and did the best he could under the circumstances. He did a good job too and so we hope to have a better weekend in Hockenheim."

Super Aguri-Honda

Aguri Suzuki, Team Principal: "Unfortunately for the team Taku had to retire due to a clutch problem, but I am very happy that Franck finished the race not only because the French Grand Prix is very important to him, but we also needed to cross the finish line again. Franck's lap times were very consistent and he made no mistakes and I think that the team did an extremely good job all weekend. We must remember that this is still the SA05 which is not a competitive car, but with our new car making its debut in Germany, we can hope for an improvement in our results."

Mercedes-powered McLaren has beaten Toyota to the mantle as F1's biggest spender.

Business F1 magazine contends that the Woking-based outfit, spending a reputed $400m a year, pips the Japanese carmaker, at $393m to the dubious post.

Third and fourth are Honda ($382m) and BMW Sauber ($378m), leaving Ferrari just fifth in the ranking with an estimated annual spend of $329m.

Reigning drivers' and constructors champion (and 2006 title leader) Renault ranked a distant sixth by spending around $300m, followed perhaps surprisingly by Red Bull ($201m).

Williams ($134m) leads the remaining privateers, but Super Aguri ($95m) outpace both MF1 ($76m) and bringing up the rear, Red Bull's junior team Scuderia Toro Rosso, at $66m.

Interestingly, though, Phillip Morris' sponsorship of Ferrari, at $97m a year, amounts to more than the annual budget of any of the final three teams.

Altogether, it's a mind-boggling collective spend of more than $2.5bn.

Fernando Alonso, yarışlarda takım arkadaşı Fisichella'dan gerekli desteği göremediğini söyledi.

Formula 1’de geride kalan 11 yarışın ardından sürücüler klasmanında liderliğini sürdüren Renault takımının pilotu Fernando Alonso takım arkadaşı Giancarlo Fisichella’yı eleştirdi.

Fransa GP'sine 3. sıradan başladığını ve önünde start alan Ferrari pilotu Felipe Massa'nın kendisine zor anlar yaşatarak takım arkadaşı Michael Schumacher'e avantaj sağladığını belirten Alonso, Fisichella’dan şu ana kadar bu yönde bir destek görmediğini söyledi. Massa'nın arkasında zaman kaybettiğini dile getiren İspanyol pilot, “Ne yazık ki ben böyle bir yardımı henüz alamadım. Her zaman tek başıma yarışıyorum” şeklinde konuştu.

Geçen sezon markalar şampiyonu olan Renault'da, Fernando Alonso pilotlar şampiyonasında lider durumda bulunurken, Giancarlo Fisichella, bu sezon sadece 3 kez podyuma çıkabildi.

Tyre supplier Michelin’s total formula one withdrawal in a little over three months could be starting to affect the outcome of the 2006 world championship fight.

‘AS’ newspaper in Spain reports that Gerald Brussoz, formerly in charge of tyre development at Michelin, is now ensconced in a role at Ferrari. His job is to oversee the integration of the red chassis with its Bridgestone tyres, and was responsible for a rear suspension system that was fitted to Michael Schumacher’s victorious car at Magny Cours.

Moreover, it is understood that Francois Xavier Gibert no longer attends grands prix for Michelin, which is pulling out of the sport in protest of the FIA’s ‘control tyre’ rule of 2008 and beyond.

Renault has claimed that their car is capable of showing more pace ahead of the introducing a revised package at the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim, after being comprehensively outpaced by Ferrari for the second race in a row.

“The C specification engine was introduced as a new family of engines, which gave us a baseline for then developing the V8 even further. Fernando will have a one-race old unit in Hockenheim, Giancarlo a brand new one, but both drivers will benefit from performance upgrades for the next race” said head of engine development Denis Chevrier

The identity of Kimi Räikkönen's next F1 employer will be unveiled in August, according to media reports.

On Tuesday, 'AS' newspaper in Spain cited the information of the Finn's manager, Steve Robertson, who supposedly told journalists at Magny Cours that they could expect to hear an announcement about 2007 next month.

It had been rumoured in the French countryside that Renault, seemingly the favourite to land 26-year-old Räikkönen on the promise of $18.5m, would complete its driver line up ahead of the grand prix, but the announcement did not come.

'AS' speculates that Kimi's alleged 'pre-agreement' with Ferrari, set to run out at the end of this month, prohibits any announcement until August.

The first grand prix in August is Hungary.

In the same report, Renault boss Flavio Briatore was quoted as promising to 'say something about my future' at Hockenheim in about ten days' time.

FIA bans advanced damper system
Friday, 21, July, 2006, 09:54

Formula 1’s governing body has outlawed an advanced damper system used by Renault and several other teams.

The system uses a mass suspended inside the dampers to equalise tyre bouncing frequencies under heavy loads, for example when cars are cornering or in contact with a kerb.

This reduces pitch and ensures a more constant level of grip, thus improving performance.

It is believed that Renault pioneered the use of ‘mass dampers’ – although the team has not been prepared to confirm this – and similar systems have since been developed by rival teams including Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.

Although the system has raised eyebrows in some corners of the paddock, until now it has been deemed legal by the FIA.

Now, however, the governing body has decided that mass dampers fall foul of Article 3.15 of F1's technical regulations, which states that all devices influencing aerodynamic performance “must be rigidly secured to the entirely sprung part of the car” and “must remain immobile in relation to the sprung part of the car”.

The FIA has concluded that mass dampers contravene this rule because the mass suspended inside the dampers is designed to move freely.

Even though dampers are usually regarded as mechanical rather than aerodynamic components of the car, they could be held to “influence aerodynamic performance”.

As a result, the use of mass dampers will henceforth be prohibited.

It is not clear what effect this ruling will have on the competitive state of play in F1.

But with the title battle delicately poised between Renault and Ferrari and the summer testing ban about to come into force, it may tip the scales one way or the other.

FIA bans BMW nose wings
In a move that doesn't exactly come as a bolt out of the blue, the FIA has banned BMW's controversial new nose wings.
In a letter sent to all teams ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix, the FIA wrote: "In view of recent developments to bodywork forward of the cockpit opening on some cars, we have become concerned that these devices may impair the forward and/or lateral vision of the driver.

"Therefore, under Article 2.3 of the F1 Technical Regulations, unless any team concerned can clearly demonstrate to the satisfaction of the technical delegate and the stewards that their driver's vision is not impaired in any way by such devices, no bodywork higher than the top of the front roll structure will be permitted forward of it."

Reacting to the news a BMW spokesman told Pitpass: "We presented the vertical wings on the cars' nose to the FIA prior to the first test. The cars with the wings passed scrutineering in Magny-Cours.

"Especially in terms of aerodynamics, it is all about increasing efficiency by continuous development and continuously finding new solutions. The vertical wings obviously presented a new aero solution within the rules.

"We, however, respect the FIA's decision to ban such elements. The knowledge we gained from this will be included in our future development programmes."

Following the apparent success of the nose wings in France, and the FIA's failure to ban them, it is understood that several other teams were investigating similar devices.

Flavio Briatore pointed the finger squarely at Renault's tyre supplier after championship leader Fernando Alonso failed to finish higher than fifth at Hockenheim.

For the third grand prix in succession, the French team was beaten by the Bridgestone-shod Ferrari package in Germany, following Renault principal Briatore's earlier insistence that Michelin should 'wake up'.

'Today everyone could see that we had blisters on the tyres,' Briatore told German television, after reportedly instructing mechanics to lay the damaged Michelins at the rear of the pits for all - including the media - to see.

The Italian chief continued: 'With a problem like that you can hardly drive the car.

'The Michelins must function, or you have nothing.'

Alonso's lead in the drivers' championship took a six-point blow - to just eleven points - on Sunday, while the constructors' battle with Ferrari is now down to a ten-point gap.

Ruminations on Ferrari driver choices

Michael Schumacher, German GP 2006© The Cahier ArchiveFerrari team boss Jean Todt told journalists after the German Grand Prix that he will announce his future after the end of the Formula 1 season but he said that the driver line-up would be confirmed before that. There is much speculation that the driver announcement will be made at Monza in September but things could happen more quickly than that as we believe that a Ferrari option on Kimi Raikkonen comes up next week. If Ferrari wishes to extend that option - to stop Raikkonen going to Renault - then it will have to pay. The big question is whether or not Raikkonen is set on ****ing Ferrari or whether he will settle for a Renault drive. There is also the matter of whether Ferrari can allow itself to take the risk that Michael Schumacher will not suddenly announce his retirement and leave it without a star number one driver. Felipe Massa looks like he is now good enough to move into that role but he has yet to win a Grand Prix and it is hard to imagine that the team would go into 2007 without either Schumacher or Raikkonen.

That is also the problem facing Renault because, whether the team admits it or not, Fernando Alonso's decision to go to McLaren was a big surprise. Renault can push Giancarlo Fisichella into the lead role and bring on Heikki Kovalainen or perhaps hire Mark Webber to go alongside Giancarlo, but neither line-up is very convincing faced by a Ferrari that could be fielding Raikkonen or Schumacher or both, and McLaren with Alonso.

Everything thus depends on Michael Schumacher and that is why Todt's remarks about his own future are interesting because most people see Todt's role being dependent on Michael. If one stays, the other will do the same and neither has any great desire to work with someone else. And that means that a key figure in all of this will be Luca di Montezemolo, the boss of FIAT and ultimately the boss of Ferrari. He knows that Todt and Schumacher are looking at the short-term. He must look at the long-term and he appears to have decided that Raikkonen is the future for Ferrari. If he sticks to that belief, others will have to make their decisions with that in mind.

If this is the case and Schumacher decides not to retire then the Finn and the German will go head-to-head at Ferrari and perhaps Webber will get the Renault, but students of Michael Schumacher and Jean Todt think this unlikely as they have always argued that having two team mates fighting is self-destructive and that no good will come of it.

All in all the delays at the moment are witnessing some fascinating discussions.

Michael Schumacher's Manager Willi Weber has told Schumacher that if he wins the Championship this year, he should retire. Weber wants Michael to end his career on the high of his 8th World Championship and in fact this would be the best decision for the German ace. This is what Weber had to say to Reuters when asked when Schumacher should retire:
"I am not only his manager, I am also his long-time friend. If we win the title, I think it's time to retire. This is my advice.

He can always do what he wants. But it is my advice and we will see what he is doing. He asked me 'What do you think I should do?' and then I gave him the answer, a real open answer.

I said that when you win the championship then I think it's time to say goodbye, because this is the top level where you want to go. Otherwise you just can hurt yourself. I have told him that."

Normally I would not agree with Weber as I believe he is extremely sleazy and underhanded. In this case however, I believe that he is completely correct. Several World Champions have been forced to suffer the indignity of retiring without taking the title in their final year. Schumacher should not have to do this, he should, if he wins his 8th World Championship this year, retire from the sport at the peak of his career. If Schumacher can not defear Fernando Alonso this year for the title, he should attempt one more time in 2007, but if he still has not claimed Championship number eight, Schumacher should very seriously consider retiring.

Unfortunately, if Michael does win the Championship this year, he may become even more motivated to go for his 9th World Drivers' Championship. Idealy, Michael should retire with the title in hand. Apparently a decision on his future is coming from Schumacher at the Italian Grand Prix, though based on Schumacher's often evasive nature with regards to retirement, we may be in store for many more months of speculation.

Renault's Pat Symonds has stated that not only will Schumacher not be World Champion, but also that Renault still has the best car. Symonds second point seems absolutely preposterous as after the German Grand Prix, Renault seems to be in serious trouble, especially considering the testing ban now in effect. Pat had this to say to Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung:
"Schumacher will not win the championship this year. In addition, Fernando has the better car."

Ross Brawn is set to either retire as Ferrari's technical director at the end of the season or begin a one-year 'sabbatical', according to press reports in Italy and Britain.

The Guardian in England claims that the 51-year-old's departure will be permanent; a prospect that will further stir speculation that the current Ferrari era is drawing to a close with the possibly concurrent withdrawals of Michael Schumacher and Jean Todt.

Schumacher and Brawn first united at Benetton in 1991, while Frenchman Todt is a personal friend of the 37-year-old Ferrari driver and is almost certain to simultaneously end his career.

A spokesman dismissed the stories as speculation, insisting: 'We will be announcing our driver lineup at the Italian grand prix next month and confirming details of our team structure at the end of the year.'

The speculation, however, was also featured by specialist publications 'Autosport', in Britain, and Italy's 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', which is well-versed on all topics Ferrari and closely linked to the Maranello team.

La Gazzetta also reported on Wednesday that Schumacher is certain to retire at the end of the 2007 season.

Schu's title hopes dented - Brawn - 06 August 2006
The points gap to Fernando Alonso might be unchanged, but Ross Brawn admitted that Michael Schumacher's championship hopes took a hit in the Budapest rain.

'Yes, because there are less races now,' Ferrari's technical director said.

'On the other hand it could have been worse, because Fernando could have won, so we fight on.'

Schumacher's '248' ultimately exited the race with damaged front suspension, after a shunt with Nick Heidfeld, on a day on which rival tyre supplier Michelin produced genuinely better pace than usual wet-weather specialists Bridgestone.

BMW-Sauber's Heidfeld confirmed: 'Michael ran into the back of me and destroyed his suspension.'

Reporters asked Schumacher if he thought he had taken too much risk in the dice with 'Quick Nick'.

'You're always smarter afterwards,' the German remarked.

'Ok, it's not easier now, but we're still in it.'

Mercedes could buy McLaren - Haug - 08 August 2006
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has declined to rule out buying the remainder of the McLaren team.

The marque's competition director, Norbert Haug, was asked by 'Bild am Sonntag' newspaper whether chiefs in Stuttgart had considered making an offer for the 60 per cent shares, which are held by Ron Dennis and team partner Mansour Ojjeh.

'We already have forty per cent,' Germany's Haug was quoted as saying by the newspaper, 'and who knows, perhaps one day we will have more.'

But Haug also suggested that Mercedes was content with its current arrangement at the silver-coloured team, and is therefore not in a rush to follow BMW's recent move to establish a full works squad.

He said: 'McLaren is an optimal partner for us.

'We are a team.

'If BMW would have had a partner like them, perhaps they would never have thought about making their own team.'

BMW 'talked' to Schumacher - Theissen - 08 August 2006
Mario Theissen has now admitted that BMW made an approach to Michael Schumacher about the German ****ing the team in 2007.

'Sure,' the German carmaker's F1 team principal confessed to 'Bild am Sonntag' newspaper, 'we talked, but we did not have serious discussions about it.'

It was reported that BMW-Sauber offered Ferrari's 37-year-old, whose future on the grid beyond 2006 is uncertain, $100m a year.

Theissen would not be drawn on the specifics of any offer, but said: 'Whoever is in my position and does not think about Michael,' the German insisted, 'is doing the wrong thing.'

He said BMW can not at the present time offer Schumacher a winning car.

''Only by 2008 do we want to be winning races,' Theissen insisted.

Mercedes' Norbert Haug, however, revealed that McLaren negotiated with Schumacher in the late-90s, 'but not after that'.

'A German driver might be an option for us in the future,' the marque's competition chief added.

'But I don't think we went down the wrong track with our Hakkinens or Räikkönens.'

Newey plays down Red Bull engine delay - 08 August 2006
Adrian Newey has played down the effect that uncertainty about Red Bull's engine supply might have on the 2007 car.

The Briton is presently hard at work on designing the 'RB3' racer, which will be steered around the circuits of the calendar next season with Mark Webber and David Coulthard at the wheel.

But, behind the scenes, discussions are still ongoing about the identity of the car's power plant, with Ferrari contracted to ship its 2007-spec V8 to the team's UK factory.

Red Bull, however, are keen to attack next year with Renault's new 2.4 litre unit.

With MF1, the two Red Bull squads are the only teams yet to settle on an engine supplier for the '07 season.

But Newey was quoted as telling the 'Kleine Zeitung' newspaper: 'It's not a huge problem for us.

'There are many other things that are just as important.'

Dad thinks Schu won't quit - 10 August 2006
Michael Schumacher's father has chimed in on the 'will-he-won't-he' speculation by predicting that his Ferrari-driving son will not retire at the end of the current season.

60-year-old Rolf Schumacher told the 'Express' publication that Michael, who is due to reveal his future to the world at Monza next month, has genuinely 'not yet' decided whether or not to hang up his racing gloves.

'My feeling is that Michael will go on,' Schumacher Senior - also Toyota driver Ralf Schumacher's father - said, 'but I cannot speak for him.

'It is his decision alone.'

Rolf's comments tie-in with the most recent whispers from Maranello, which suggest that Michael has indeed indicated that he will race in 2007.

But similarly reliable noises from the Ferrari camp in Italy also indicate that Kimi Räikkönen has now penned a contract to **** the red team next year, presumably as a ****t 'number one' alongside 37-year-old Schumacher.

'If Michael has stopped having fun, he will stop,' Rolf Schumacher went on, 'and if he says 'I can still beat the boys', then I see him going on.'

Schumacher's Dad does, however, concede the genuine possibility that his ultra-successful son will no longer feature on the grand prix grids of 2007.

He admitted: 'If Michael says in Monza, 'I am stopping', then I am sure that will disappoint many people.

'But life goes on, and there is still another Schumacher in Formula One ...'

Ferrari'nin patronu Jean Todt, Hungaroring'de bitime üç tur kala yarış dışı kalan Michael Schumacher'i fazla zorlamaması için uyarmayarak hata yaptıklarını söyledi.

Jean Todt, Michael Schumacher'in şampiyonluk yarışında Fernando Alonso ile aradaki puan farkını iyice kapatma şansını teptiği Macaristan GP'sinde kendilerinin de hatalı olduğunu açıkladı.

Todt, üç tur kala yarış dışı kalan Schumacher'i fazla zorlamaması için uyarmayarak hata yaptıklarını itiraf etti:

Bernie thinks Montoya will return to F1 - 17 August 2006
Bernie Ecclestone has cast doubt on Juan Pablo Montoya's apparent determination to see out his motor racing career in the NASCAR series.

Although departed McLaren racer Montoya frequently muses about an impending '10-15 years' in the American tin-top category, Ecclestone - F1's supremo - reckons the 30-year-old will be back.

'He felt unloved at McLaren, because very often they criticised him,' Bernie is quoted as saying by 'Eurosport Automagazin' in an interview to be published on Friday.

75-year-old Ecclestone added: 'He came to a point where he didn't know what to do or what he wanted, so he thought it was a better idea to take a break from Formula One.

'I believe he will return.'

For the time being, then, Englishman Bernie says he will miss Montoya, who hails from Colombia, because he is a 'special character'.

'F1 needs drivers like him,' Ecclestone added.

Merc makes $64m push to keep Kimi - 16 August 2006
Despite speculation that his Ferrari deal is now all but official, new reports indicate that Kimi Räikkönen's future on the Formula One grid beyond 2006 is not yet settled.

An article in Germany's major daily newspaper 'Bild' on Wednesday will write that, as part of the speculated buyout of McLaren, carmaker Mercedes-Benz is making a final push to retain the 26-year-old Finn.

The report refers to a supposed two-year, (US) $64 million offer for Räikkönen, who has also been linked with a move to current championship-leading team Renault.

Regarding the rumoured Mercedes-Benz buyout of McLaren, meanwhile, Bild cited the information of a Mercedes spokesman in claiming that 'it is conceivable' that Ron Dennis would be left at the helm.

Earlier reports suggested that Mercedes' competition director Norbert Haug might assume the top job.
Yet another racing publication has claimed inside knowledge of Michael Schumacher's decision, due to be publicly announced at Monza, about his future in Formula One beyond 2006.

Recent reports suggested that the 37-year-old German was set to retire, but 'Auto Bild Motorsport' - citing 'sources' - now adds to claims in Britain that Schumacher is in fact due to sign a new contract for 2007.

The seven time world champion's Ferrari deal will also include an 'option' for 2008, the German publication added, with Kimi Räikkönen as his new ****t number-one teammate.

With Schumacher-Räikkönen in the race cockpits, Maranello incumbent Felipe Massa is most likely to slip into a highly-paid role as a Ferrari test driver.

Jacques Villeneuve has launched a scathing attack on his former Formula One nemesis, Michael Schumacher.

In an interview, to be headlined as 'Jacques Attacks' on the cover of 'F1 Racing' magazine next week, the axed BMW-Sauber racer branded Schumacher - the seven time world champion - as bland and a liar.

French-Canadian Villeneuve, 35, said: 'I think the day he hangs up his helmet people will just forget him.'

Referring to Senna, Prost and Mansell, JV added that 'those people attained a hero status that Michael never has and never will'.

Villeneuve and Schumacher's acrimony dates back to 1997, where at Jerez they collided at the climax of their championship duel.

'Michael simply isn't a great champion,' Jacques continued, 'because he's played too many dirty tricks and because he isn't a great human being.'

Villeneuve, who resigned from the drivers' GPDA body after the infamous Rascasse affair at Monaco this year, also accuses Schumacher, 37, of being a 'liar'.

'He lies not only to fans but to his fellow drivers, too. He just stared in our eyes and lied.

'He thinks he's bigger than the sport, and when he retires, and no one really remembers him, that will become clear.'

Schu 'no comment' on Villeneuve outburst - 18 August 2006
Michael Schumacher's spokeswoman has refused to comment on accusations by Jacques Villeneuve that the seven time world champion is bland and a liar.

'We have been aware of the quotes since yesterday,' Sabine Kehm reacted on behalf of the 37-year-old Ferrari driver.

She insisted: 'We don't even want to make a 'no comment' on this.'

In the 'Aftenposten' newspaper, meanwhile, Kehm responded to reports that a Norwegian journalist, Bjorn Benkow, twice faked exclusive interviews with Schumacher earlier this year.

'Michael only speaks with the press at press conferences,' she explained,

F1'i 135 bin kişi izledi

Red Bull to honour Ferrari engine contract - 28 August 2006
Despite flirting with a switch to Renault V8s, Red Bull Racing will stick with Ferrari power in 2007, team chief Christian Horner has said.

Red Bull has often been disappointed with its arrangement with Maranello based Ferrari in 2006, and was believed to have preferred to move to Renault, but at the end of last year signed a two-year engine supply deal with the Italian squad.

Quoted as telling Austria's biggest newspaper, Kronen Zeitung, Horner said: 'We will have Ferrari engines in 2007. We will stay with the contract.'

If confirmed, the news will end any link between the Renault engine rumours and Flavio Briatore-managed Mark Webber's confirmed switch to the team for 2007.

Presently Cosworth V10-powered 'Toro Rosso' co-owner Gerhard Berger, meanwhile, said in Istanbul that his team was still weighing-up its engine options.

The Austrian said: 'There is no big secret that we're talking to Cosworth V8, Ferrari, Renault - different companies.'

F1 podium sparks political storm (UPDATE) - 29 August 2006
The FIA says it has launched a 'full investigation' after Sunday's Formula One podium ceremony at Istanbul sparked a political storm.

Debutant race winner for Ferrari, Felipe Massa, received his trophy from Mehmet Ali Talat, who was introduced by the regular F1 announcer and the official television caption as the 'President of the Northern Turkish Republic of Cyprus'.

In fact, Turkish troops invaded Cyprus in 1974, and still occupy the north-eastern area, which was subsequently declared by both the United Nations and the European Union as an illegal state.

Cyprus spokesman Christodoulos Pasharis denounced the F1 podium as an 'unacceptable and provocative piece of theatre', and said the government intends to lodge an official complaint with the FIA.

He said Turkey had exploited a sports event and 'tricked' Formula One's governing body.

An FIA statement on Tuesday read: 'Political neutrality is fundamental to the FIA's role as the governing body of international motor sport. No compromise or violation of this neutrality is acceptable.

'The results of the investigation will be presented to the FIA World Motor Sport Council.'

Podium storm could cost Turkey its F1 race - 30 August 2006
A political storm involving the Formula One podium and Cyprus could cost Turkey its grand prix.

It was reported on Tuesday that the FIA has launched an investigation into how and why the controversial and disputed leader of northern Cyprus came to present Felipe Massa with his trophy last Sunday.

The Istanbul event was listed on the governing body's provisional calendar for 2007 on Tuesday, but it is now widely reported that the incident - sparking official complaints from the Cyprus and Greek governments - could result in the World Motor Sport Council stripping Turkey not only of Formula One, but also its FIA World Rally event.

'No compromise or violation of this (political) neutrality is acceptable,' said the FIA's strongly-worded statement.

FIA spokesman Richard Woods added: 'We are taking it very seriously.'

Istanbul chamber of commerce leader Murat Yalcintas only worsened the matter by admitting that the choice of podium presenter on Sunday had been politically deliberate.

'The Formula One race was a great opportunity,' he told the Anatolia news agency, adding that organisers delayed giving the FIA details so as not to raise suspicion of the political motivation.

He added: 'Cyprus is our national cause.'

The spokesman for the Paris-based FIA refused to make further comment, but in 1997 the Jerez circuit was forever banned from staging another grand prix after a far less serious podium incident.

Uninvited, local mayor Pedro Pacheco gate-crashed the ceremony, with the result that FIA president Max Mosley told him personally that F1 would never return to race at the circuit in south-western Spain.

In 2002, Ferrari was fined $1m after Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello stood on the wrong podium steps at the A1-Ring in Austria.

Depending on what you read, Renault principal Flavio Briatore is either on the verge of signing a new contract, or retiring from the sport.

The 56-year-old Italian, whose current agreement runs out at the end of the year, 'has said he will stay on ... next year', British broadsheet 'The Guardian' wrote on Wednesday.

But popular German tabloid Bild-Zeitung - running the headline 'Briatore retiring!' - insists that the complete opposite is true.

The newspaper wrote: 'The world champion-maker of Schumi and Alonso is going to walk away after this season'.

Briatore was quoted as saying: 'I am not coming back to the Formula One races next year.

'I have the feeling that all my goals have been achieved.'

'Bild' speculates that Pat Symonds will take over at the helm of the Renault team in 2007.

Wild claims this week that Cyprus could replace Turkey on the 2007 Formula One calendar have been dismissed.

In the wake of the political storm caused by the identity of the official on the Istanbul podium last Sunday, Cyprus' domestic media reported that the island nation in the eastern Mediterranean Sea could be set to **** the F1 circus.

But daily newspaper 'Cyprus Mail' wrote: 'Motor sport's world governing body (the FIA) poured cold water (on the) claims.'

However, it was reported two years ago that Cyprus officials were seeking up to $150 million to fund a F1-style grand prix circuit, and that 'meetings were held' with FIA boss Max Mosley.

Cyprus already hosts a round of the FIA's World Rally championship.

Following the lead of Germany's 'Bild' newspaper, the Italian sports media is now also reporting that Michael Schumacher has decided to retire from F1.

After it was confirmed that Kimi Räikkönen is definitely not a part of the Renault line-up for 2007, 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' wrote on Wednesday that the task to announce Schumacher's withdrawal after 15 years in the cockpit will fall on Jean Todt at Monza on Sunday.

At the same time, Ferrari is expected to confirm the 2007 lineup of Räikkönen alongside Felipe Massa.

'One cannot comment on everything that is written,' said Schumacher's spokeswoman, Sabine Kehm.

'You will have to wait until Sunday.'

The 37-year-old German himself was in Venice on Wednesday, attending a PR event alongside Massa.

He continued to stick to a team agreement to keep quiet until Sunday, but was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport as reflecting on his five titles and eleven seasons for the red team.

'I do not have colleagues (at Ferrari),' he said, 'instead I have friends.

'After more than ten years I am nearly Italian and the experience has been beautiful.'

Ferrari power for Midland? - 06 September 2006
The Midland team could switch to Ferrari V8 power for 2007, according to German publication Auto Motor Und Sport.

With the Silverstone-based squad set to lose its Toyota engines to Williams, the magazine reported that a meeting between Jean Todt and MF1 representative Victor Muller is scheduled to take place at Monza.

If true, the news would also indicate that Midland is close to being sold, as Muller is the CEO of Spyker Cars, a Dutch car maker that is linked to a $100m buy-out consortium.

It is also a blow for Cosworth, which is running out of prospective partners for 2007.

Muller, meanwhile, is also reported to have been in contact with Toyota's high profile former technical director, Mike Gascoyne.

The MF1-Ferrari link is interesting, as Red Bull already has an engine supply contract with the Italian marque that is almost certain to be enforced next year.

And, referring to Toro Rosso, Red Bull's Dietrich Mateschitz told Motorsport Aktuell: 'Perhaps both of our teams will have Ferrari engines in the coming season.'

Alonso doubts Ferrari wheels are legal - 06 September 2006
Championship leader Fernando Alonso has echoed Renault chiefs' doubts about the legality of wheels fitted to the Ferrari car.

Earlier this week, Renault's Pat Symonds questioned the black wheel rim covers amid suggestions that they flout not only aerodynamic rules but also 'parc ferme' conditions.

It is understood that, having debuted the rear wheels in Istanbul, Ferrari intend to continue using them at Monza, following their appearance during last week's test at the circuit.

The controversy comes after the recent 'mass damper' affair, when the FIA contentiously banned Renault's system because it broke the rules about moving aerodynamic pieces.

Spaniard Alonso, 25, told Sport Bild: 'I have tried, but I cannot understand why our system is banned but Ferrari is allowed to race with those wheels.'

Geçen yılki ilk yarışta Formula 1’in patronu Bernie Eclestone, 'Türkiye’de Formula 1 kaç yıl kalacak' sorusuna ‘100 yıl buradayız’ cevabını vermişti.

Ferrari set for Räikkönen-Massa lineup - 07 September 2006
While Michael Schumacher's future is unclear, it is nonetheless becoming increasingly certain that the names Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa will surely feature on any official Ferrari announcement at Monza.

Following his maiden win from pole at Turkey, 25-year-old Massa commented at a PR event in Venice on Wednesday: 'This weekend will be another very important race, especially as a Ferrari driver.

'Life could not be much better than going to Monza for the Italian grand prix.

'Step by step I am growing as a driver. I can't wait (for Monza). It's going to be a really exciting weekend.'

Germany's best selling 'Bild' newspaper, meanwhile, wrote in an article to appear on Thursday that Finn Räikkönen actually signed his Ferrari contract more than a year ago.

The report said the 26-year-old put pen to paper on 25 August, 2005.

Massa's staying at Ferrari - Mateschitz - 07 September 2006
Felipe Massa is committed to the Ferrari team for 2007, according to Red Bull mogul Dietrich Mateschitz.

While contemplating his own squad's next driver line up, the Austrian billionaire said the 'only alternative' to hiring Mark Webber to drive alongside David Coulthard would have been Massa, the 25-year-old Brazilian racer.

'However,' Mateschitz told Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell, 'it became clear relatively early that he is staying at Ferrari.'

Michael Schumacher could move from the cockpit at the end of 2006 to a management role at Ferrari.

With speculation about the seven time world champion's expiring contract at melting-point, an official admitted that Schumacher's rumoured 'retirement' announcement at Monza may not be the end to his association with the Maranello based marque.

Director for communication and brand management, Antonio Ghini, is quoted as saying by Sport-Informations-Dienst that 37-year-old Schumacher is invited to remain in the 'Ferrari family' beyond his driving career.

Former triple world champion Niki Lauda, meanwhile, predicted that Schumacher's likely exit might simply be a 'sabbatical'. The Austrian great once retired, returned, and won another world title.

'Maybe that is what he is thinking he might do,' Lauda told 'Frankfurter Rundschau' publication.

'With his condition and with his experience, he is not too old.

'Personally, I think he should go. I would.'

Distraught fans of the great German have launched a petition website in recent days, aptly named 'www.michael-please-stay-in-f1.com'.

08.09.2006 16:18 -ANKARA (İHA) -

Formula 1 Petrol Ofisi Türkiye Grand Prix'sini kazanan Ferrari pilotu Filipe Massa'ya ödülünü KKTC Cumhurbaşkanı Mehmet Ali Talat'ın vermesinin ardından, Uluslararası Otomobil Federasyonu'dan bir yetkilinin "Türkiye F1 yarışını yitirebilir" iddiası Dışişleri Bakanlığı'nı harekete geçirdi. Kısa sürede devreye giren bakanlık sorunu çözerken, "Konu Türkiye için kapanmıştır" değerlendirmesi yapıldı.

Dışişleri Bakanlığı, KKTC Cumhurbaşkanı Talat'ın ödül vermesinin ardından Uluslararası Otomobil Federasyonu'nu arayarak bilgi aldı. Uluslararası Otomobil Federasyonu ise gerek Dışişleri Bakanlığı'na gerekse Türkiye Otomobil Sporları Federasyonu'na yaptığı açıklamada, söz konusu olayın herhangi bir sorun oluşturmayacağını bildirdi. Bunun üzerine "Uluslararası Otomobil Federasyonu"ndan bir yetkilinin Talat'ın ödül vermesinin Türkiye'de F1 yarışlarının sona erdireceği yönündeki açıklamalarını değerlendiren Dışişleri Bakanlığı yetkilileri, "Konu bizim için kapanmıştır. Söz konusu haberler F-1'in Türkiye'de yapılmasını hazmedemeyen yabancı ülkeler tarafından gündeme getiriliyor. Biz Dışişleri Bakanlığı olarak Sayın Talat'ın ödül vermesinin ardından Uluslararası Otomobil Federasyonu'nu arayarak konuyu değerlendirdik ve bize hiçbir sorun olmayacağını ilettiler. Bu tür haberler Türkiye'deki uluslararası yarışların popülaritesini hazmedemeyen dış güçler tarafından çıkarılıyor" açıklamasını yaptı.

Alonso punished for blocking Massa

09 September 2006

World champion Fernando Alonso has dropped from fifth to tenth on the provisional grid for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix after Monza stewards penalized him for impeding Ferrari’s Felipe Massa during qualifying.

Massa complained to officials that Alonso had blocked him whilst on his final run at the end of session. The stewards agreed and deleted the Renault star’s three fastest times from Q3, though they did concede that Alonso’s actions may not have been deliberate.

The penalty has no effect on Massa’s grid position as he had qualified fourth, immediately ahead of Alonso. However, it is good news for Ferrari team mate Michael Schumacher, who qualified second. Schumacher, who trails Alonso by 12 points in the drivers’ championship, now has seven cars between himself and his title rival for the start of Ferrari’s home race.

The final grid positions will be published by the FIA on Sunday morning.

Birincilikle tamamladığı İtalya Grand Prix'sinin ardından pistlere sezon sonunda veda edeceğini açıklayan Schumacher'in bu kararı hakkında Alonso, ''Herkesin bir zamanı vardır, Michael'in kararına saygı duymak lazım. Artık durum biraz daha eşitlendi'' yorumunu yaptı.

Schu the best sportsman - Tiger Woods - 13 September 2006
American golfer Tiger Woods says he thinks retiring Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is the best sportsman in the world.

Although Woods narrowly beats the seven time world champion to top spot on any sports earning list, he nonetheless called 37-year-old Schumacher's career achievements 'phenomenal'.

'In my eyes, Michael Schumacher has to be (the best),' said the 30-year-old.

Woods said: 'His consistency does it for me. He's performed year in, year out, in a sport watched globally under immense pressure.'

Woods also hinted that he, too, might follow Germany's Schumacher into retirement, but only when he beats Jack Nicklaus' record of 19 majors.

Spyker admit possible Ferrari engine deal - 14 September 2006
Spyker-MF1 team principal Colin Kolles has admitted talks with Ferrari about the supply of V8 engines in 2007.

Although Cosworth is believed to be among what he describes as 'two to three options' to replace Williams-bound Toyota power plants ahead of next season, the Romanian-born boss confirmed a reported link between the Dutch carmaker Spyker and F1's red team.

'People who are shareholders in Ferrari are also shareholders in Spyker,' he revealed.

'We are always in contact with Ferrari.'

Spyker CEO Victor Muller also admitted that there is 'a chance' that next year's F1 single seater will be a Spyker-Ferrari.

He told Speed TV: 'But these discussions are ongoing and until we've concluded a deal, we can't say anything.'

Fiat to pay $800m for Ferrari stake - 14 September 2006
Turin-based Italian carmaker Fiat is poised to buy back 29 per cent of Ferrari.

A five per cent stake was sold last year for $138m, which would value Fiat's latest plan at approximately $800m.

CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters on a visit to China that he is hoping to secure the deal before the end of September, after Fiat sold 34 per cent of the Maranello based marque in 2002.

With Italian bank Mediobanca's 29 per cent stake, Fiat - whose chairman Luca di Montezemolo is also in charge of Ferrari - would then own 83 per cent of the Prancing Horse.

Italy's leading newswire ANSA, meanwhile, claims that Fiat has now 'shelved the plan' to list Ferrari on the stock market.

It is also reported that Fiat will not seek to buy back the five per cent stake that is today owned by the government of Abu Dhabi

Honda to race 2007 engine in China - 14 September 2006
Honda will attempt to use its 2007-specification engine at China's Shanghai race next month.

The Japanese marque's plan to introduce the updated 2.4 litre V8 at Monza backfired spectacularly when Anthony Davidson suffered two failures in free practice last Friday.

However, now desperate to beat the looming engine 'freeze' deadline, Brackley based Honda has made some modifications to the unit in order to try again at Shanghai, rather than be effectively stuck with the under powered current engine for years.

Team boss Nick Fry told Speed TV that the cause of the Monza failures were manufacturing errors.

'So that's good news for us, because it means that we can reintroduce that engine at the first available moment,' said the Briton.

At Monza, after reverting to the older V8 specification, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello logged the second and third slowest speeds of the entire grand prix field.

Slowest of all through the FIA speed trap was Sakon Yamamoto, whose Super Aguri is also powered by a Honda engine.

China is all teams' last chance to introduce a new engine, as the FIA requires homologated engines to have completed two full races.

Renault to supply engines to Red Bull

15 September 2006

At least one of Red Bull’s two Formula One teams will use Renault power next year after the Austrian company reached an engine supply agreement for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Red Bull Racing currently use Ferrari engines, with sister team Toro Rosso running Cosworth V10s. Red Bull will confirm at a later date which of the two will be switching to the Renault supply.

Commenting on the new agreement, Renault’s Formula One Team President Alain Dassas said: "It is positive for Formula One to have another team racing with a top-line, competitive engine, and this agreement will also reinforce Renault's presence in the sport. We look forward to working with a dynamic, ambitious company such as Red Bull."

Renault have a strong tradition of Formula One engine supply dating back to 1983, when the French manufacturer first supplied customer engines to Lotus. Lotus, Ligier, Tyrrell, Williams and Benetton all used Renault power at different times during the 1980s and 1990s, scoring a total of 80 Grand Prix wins.

More engine failures concern Renault - 19 September 2006
Following championship leader Fernando Alonso's engine failure at Monza, Renault is still concerned about the reliability of the latest 'D' specification, according to reports in Spain.

The newspaper 'AS' revealed that Alonso's current teammate, Giancarlo Fisichella, experienced no less than two similar smoky V8 failures at the Jerez test last Thursday.

'The first (was) at noon and the second at two o'clock,' the newspaper article read, adding that engineers had to impose a rev limit to prevent the problem from occurring again.

Renault would not confirm the engine drama, only admitting officially that Fisichella's day had been delayed because of unspecified 'mechanical problems'.

Fisichella told 'AS': '(The failed engines were) the same specification that Fernando used in Italy.'

Another boost for Imola's 2007 hopes - 20 September 2006
Following the FIA's confirmation of an unspecified eighteenth race for the 2007 F1 calendar, the Italian government has given a further boost to beleaguered venue Imola.

A statement on Wednesday confirmed that construction work at the circuit in the country's central north, demanded by Formula One authorities, will begin on October 4.

'All participants repeated their willingness to work together so that the grand prix can be held on April 29, 2007 and in following years,' the statement, issued after a meeting in Rome, read.

The Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reported earlier this month that the meeting would be attended by government representatives, regional chiefs and Imola mayor Massimo Marchignola.

Hamilton plays down de la Rosa 'shootout' - 20 September 2006
Lewis Hamilton has played down suggestions that this week's Silverstone test is a 'shootout' against McLaren incumbent Pedro de la Rosa for the 2007 race seat alongside Fernando Alonso.

The 21-year-old Briton, who recently wrapped up the GP2 championship at his first attempt, did a number of installation laps at Silverstone on Tuesday ahead of his two-day head-to-head with Spaniard de la Rosa, 35.

But he told ITV: 'I don't think they are analysing these tests saying 'if you do better than Pedro you'll be in the seat'. I've been told I'm not being tested.

'I'm not putting any pressure on myself to go out and be quicker than him.'

Following his proper test debut at Silverstone, Hamilton is scheduled to then appear again at Jerez before the Brazilian GP.

Also in Northamptonshire on Tuesday, Narain Karthikeyan ran into technical trouble whilst debuting Williams' Toyota V8 engine.

At a foggy Jerez circuit in southern Spain, meanwhile, BMW-Sauber began a test week. The German squad will be ****ed by Honda on Wednesday.

Turkish race still in doubt - 20 September 2006
Organisers of the Turkish grand prix have just thirty days to pay a $5 million fine imposed on Tuesday morning by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.

The revelation means that, despite escaping the ultimate sanction for politicising the podium ceremony at the Istanbul event last month, the race scheduled for August 26 next year is still in doubt.

'We've only got a very short period to find the money,' track manager Baran Asena acknowledged to British broadcaster ITV, 'but we are sure our race, which has been one of the most popular additions to Formula One, will stay on the calendar.'

The Istanbul Park - otherwise known as the 'Otodrom' - circuit issued a short statement after the Council's decision, insisting that future grands prix in Turkey 'will continue uninterrupted'.

Honda's team principal Nick Fry admitted that Turkey would be a significant loss to the sport.

'For the car manufacturers and for all the sponsors, it would be losing a growth market and that would be commercially not great,' the Briton said.

Spyker confirms new orange livery - 20 September 2006
F1's new Spyker-MF1 team has thanked other teams and the FIA for allowing it to make a mid-season livery change for the final grands prix of 2006.

The formerly Midland-owned car appeared with a striking orange and silver paint scheme at the Silverstone test this week, and a team statement on Wednesday confirmed that it will be adopted for the upcoming Chinese grand prix.

Mid-season colour changes are allowed only with unanimous team and FIA consent.

'I am very pleased with the result and thank the other teams and FIA for their cooperation to make this livery change possible at such short notice,' said Dutch carmaker Spyker's CEO Victor Muller.

Orange is the Netherlands' national colour.

Toyota eye Ferrari's Gene - 24 September 2006
Toyota is on the lookout for another new test driver - and Ferrari's Marc Gene seems to fit the bill.

'He is definitely on our list for 2007,' team president John Howett is quoted as saying by specialist British magazine Autosport.

Japanese squad Toyota is about to sign Franck Montagny as a replacement for Renault-bound Ricardo Zonta next year, but the Cologne based team must also face the loss of veteran Olivier Panis.

32-year-old Gene, a Barcelona-born Spaniard, race debuted for Minardi in 1999 before fulfilling Williams' test driver role between 2001 and 2004.

Alongside Luca Badoer, he then became Ferrari's second test driver after signing a contract in November 2004

Briatore attacks Dennis, Toyota - 24 September 2006
Renault boss Flavio Briatore has launched an attack on McLaren and other Formula One rivals by accusing them of not focusing on winning races or improving the sport.

While urging his colleagues to think about spicing up the spectacle and obsessing less about hidden technology, the Italian singled out fellow team principal Ron Dennis, and Japanese giant Toyota, as money wasters.

'Why do these teams build such enormous and expensive motor homes?' Briatore, 56, told British magazine F1 Racing.

'We don't and Ferrari don't (because) TV viewers never see them.

'I also don't understand Ron's new (McLaren) factory. What good did it do his team? The bigger the factory, the less efficient it is.'

He then revealed that, despite recently dumping the British engineer, Toyota multiplied Mike Gascoyne's $760,000 Renault salary by a factor of ten when the giant carmaker poached him.

Briatore, however, did offer a solution or two to what he sees as F1's problems, as he proposed reverse grids and grands prix held at night.

He asked: 'Why always (start the race at) 2pm? It's a stupid time - to watch a grand prix you have to f*** up your whole Sunday.'

Renault want 'poor race' from Schu - 25 September 2006
As he did in 2004 and 2005, Michael Schumacher could have another 'poor race' at Shanghai this weekend, according to Renault's Pat Symonds.

As the championship and psychological battle heats up with two points separating Schumacher from his rival with three races to go, Symonds pointed out that Fernando Alonso convincingly won the Chinese GP last October.

And referring to Schumacher's spin and retirement in 2005, the Renault technical chief added: 'That trend could continue this year.

'Some people seem to think Renault is a spent force in this championship. That is far from the case.'

Monza, however, was a disaster for the French squad, with a rare engine failure for Alonso following his controversial stewards penalty.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Spanish racer has not win a single race since the Canadian grand prix three months ago.

Symonds agrees that Ferrari possess the 'momentum' at the moment, but noted that Renault also lost the lead at one point in the constructors' title last year.

He said: 'The attitude now is 'OK, let's do it again'.

'But there is plenty of pressure, and there's no point denying it.'

Honda has turned out in Shanghai with its now-traditional livery change for the Chinese grand prix.

Because Lucky Strike cigarettes are not widely promoted in the country, the team is showing off sponsor BAT's sister brand, 555, by adding an element of blue to the usually white and red car.

The mechanics and drivers are also wearing blue and yellow clothing and overalls, rather than their usual white.

-

Michael Schumacher has refused to respond to championship rival Fernando Alonso's recent claim that the retiring German is the most 'unsporting' driver in Formula One history.

After drawing a blank in the official FIA press conference on Thursday, reporters - once again - asked the Ferrari driver in the Shanghai paddock if he had a reply.

'I don't like to comment on people's opinions,' he said. 'Everyone is free to say what they want, but it does not mean that you always have to reply.'

India's Narain Karthikeyan will stay at Williams as a test driver in 2007, the team announced on Thursday.

-

World champion Fernando Alonso told reporters in China that he is happy to have been beaten in popularity by Michael Schumacher and other rivals in the FIA survey.

'I don't want to be popular,' said the Spaniard, 'I only want to drive the car and win.'

Engine woe sends Massa down grid - 29 September 2006
Felipe Massa will move ten places down the starting grid for Sunday's Chinese grand prix after the Ferrari team had to change his engine following afternoon practice on Friday.

The Brazilian's power trouble is also a blow to Ferrari's constructors' championship challenge, with the Italian squad moving three points ahead of Renault at Monza with three races to go.

Massa, 25, completed 8 laps in Friday's final session, and was the quickest of all race drivers, including teammate Michael Schumacher.

It is not clear whether title charger Schumacher's engine is also likely to need changing, but the current information from Shanghai was specific to cohort Massa.

Massa's blow follows that of Super Aguri racer Takuma Sato, who incurred the same penalty when his Honda engine was changed between the Italian and Chinese rounds.

The Honda engine in Rubens Barrichello's works car, meanwhile, was worked on by team technicians under FIA supervision, so he avoids the qualifying penalty.

Honda, Brawn, reject 2007 rumour - 29 September 2006
Honda has dismissed the rumours of last week that linked Ferrari's Ross Brawn with a move in 2007 to the Brackley team.

'I can categorically say that there's been no contact whatsoever on a professional basis,' team principal Nick Fry said on Friday.

'I think you can firmly put that one to bed.'

Englishman Brawn, thought more likely to start a sabbatical at the end of the year, also rejected the speculation and repeated Ferrari's intention to reveal its future line-up after the current season has ended.

He said: 'But I'm very happy at Ferrari and I'm certainly not entertaining going to another team.'

CHINESE GP - SUNDAY - TEAM QUOTES

Renault
Fernando Alonso (2nd): "This was a difficult race for the team because we lost a very good opportunity today. I built up a good lead in the first 20 laps, but my front tyres were badly worn - and the conditions were difficult as the track was drying very slowly. We made the decision to change the fronts for a new pair, and it was the wrong one - as we saw with Fisi and Michael, who kept all four tyres on the car and were much quicker. After that, the only thing we could do was go to dry tyres as early as possible - and hope to catch up the time to Michael. In the end, there were not enough laps left. So it was a bad day, but this is a fantastic fight for the championship, and I go to Japan feeling really confident. We had the quickest car today, and we have two more good chances to win. I believe we can do it."

Giancarlo Fisichella (3rd): "This was a good race for me - and a good result for myself and the team. Finishing third means I go ahead of Massa in the drivers' championship, and the team is leading the constructors' championship again. I started with the biggest fuel load of any car at the front, so the first laps were quite tough - but the conditions came to me really well as the circuit dried. We kept the same set of tyres at the stop, and I was able to be very competitive and pull away from Michael. But when I came out on dry tyres, the track was so slippery - and the tyres weren't at temperature yet. I slid wide, and Michael got past. After that, we turned the engine down to save it for Japan, and made sure of the podium finish. After seeing how the car performed today, we know that we have the performance to win both titles, beginning next weekend in Japan."

Pat Symonds, Executive Director of Engineering: "We are making no excuses today. This is a race we should have won, because the Renault and its Michelin tyres were dominant in all conditions. The fact we did not do so is intensely frustrating for the entire team. Fernando drove brilliantly from the start, and as we approached the first stop, told us on the radio that his front tyres were very badly worn. In consultation with Fernando and Michelin, we decided to change them - and leave the rears on. It soon became clear that the track was drying quickly, and that the decision had been the wrong one. As a result, we took the risk of stopping very early to switch Fernando to dry tyres - in the hope he would be able to gain time on the leaders. A delay in that pit-stop cost us more time: we know that the nut fell out of the wheel gun, but not yet why. Afterwards, Fernando once again drove fantastically to close in on Michael, but we simply ran out of laps. Giancarlo drove well at the critical points of his race, and was unlucky to lose the lead after his second stop - when he was caught out like many others this afternoon by the slippery track while running a set of dry tyres that were not yet up to temperature. His podium finish, though, gave us the means to re-take the lead in the constructors' championship, and that fact shows that we have the performance to win both titles. The Michelin tyres were superior in the wet and the dry today, and it was easy to get the best out of the car in the changing conditions. We now go to the final races with renewed confidence. Today showed that the Renault is the fastest car out there. We fully intend to make use of it in the final two races of what is proving to be a thrilling title showdown."

Flavio Briatore, Managing Director: "We are all very sorry for Fernando. He was simply fantastic today, and dominated in both the wet and the dry. After a performance like that, there is nothing more frustrating than to see a win slip through your fingers. Giancarlo drove well to be on the podium, and his points mean we go back ahead in the constructors' championship. This evening, our main feeling is frustration. Looking further ahead, though, we had the quickest car today and both championships are equal. We know we have the team and the performance to win."

McLaren-Mercedes
Pedro de la Rosa (5th): "A difficult race for everybody. I made a wrong call after the first stint when I asked my engineer for a different set of intermediate Michelin tyres. In hindsight I should have stayed on the ones I had, like Kimi, as the track was drying, and I suffered from graining. This lost me a lot of time but apart from that our pace was good. I didn't see much of what happened towards the end of the final lap. It had started raining slightly again, and we were all on dry weather tyres coming into what is a hard braking area. I was lucky to stay out of trouble and gained two places as a result. Our car seems to be on the pace. I'm sure we will win a race before the end of the year."

Kimi Raikkonen (DNF, Throttle): "That was a shame as it was looking like we could achieved a win today. I don't know exactly what happened, but all of a sudden the throttle didn't react correctly and the engine went into safety mode and selected neutral. I made a good start and then got on the outside and gained a couple of places - it was a bit tight, so I didn't manage to get past Fisichella at that point. I overtook him later on and was gaining on Alonso before my first scheduled pitstop. I'm disappointed, but at least we showed that we have the speed, so I'm looking forward to Japan now."

Ron Dennis, Team Principal: "Obviously an action packed Grand Prix. Kimi's strategy and car set-up were more than capable of winning the race. Unfortunately a failure of the engine throttle mechanism forced him to retire. Pedro struggled with front-end grip and had a spin following his pitstop. However he did well to finish fifth, and the entire team now looks forward to the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka next weekend."

Norbert Haug, Mercedes Motorsport Director: "An eventful race which began promising with Kimi running second. However a problem with the throttle activation system led to his retirement. The reason for this is being investigated. Kimi's lap times were strong and good enough to win the race. Pedro drove a solid race, had a spin after changing to grooved tyres and came home fifth. With two more races to go we want to clinch the victory we missed today."

Ferrari
Michael Schumacher (1st): "I am so happy! I want to thank the team for this result, as they did a fantastic job. After the start, I was surprised to find that I could match the pace of those ahead of me, which was better than I had expected. After a while, I was able to close up on Fisichella. I thought that if I could pass him, even if I could not win, then at least I would only lose two points to Fernando and given where I started that would have been a good result. It was very important to reduce the gap to the Renaults when the track began to dry. The crucial moment came with the switch to dry tyres. I knew that even if Fisichella managed to stay ahead of me after his stop, I would have the chance to pass him going into the first corner as he would be in trouble with the temperature of his tyres and that is what happened. In the final laps, I drove very carefully. I had a good gap but the track conditions were getting difficult, however, I was never worried about getting caught. Now we go to Suzuka, a track that I love. But it is difficult to make any predictions and as usual, tyre performance will be crucial."

Felipe Massa (DNF, Damage): "I was very quick all through the race, both on the wet track and when it was drying out. Maybe it was a bit of risk fitting the dry tyres a bit early, but once they reached the right temperature, I was one of the quickest on track. It's a shame what happened with Coulthard. We were right in the middle of a fight and at the end of the straight, I went a bit long because the track was slippery and we ended up touching. Unfortunately, I damaged the front left suspension and had to retire. I could have finished in the points, helping the team in the fight for the Constructors' and to defend my third place in the Drivers' classification. I have to say I plan to make up for it and do my best in Suzuka."

Jean Todt, Team Principal: "This was an incredibly intense race in which Michael's genius, the team's talent and the exceptional Bridgestone tyres all made this extraordinary result possible. It was a shame for Felipe who was staging an exceptional climb up the order from the penultimate row of the grid. A collision with Coulthard put him out of the race, which prevented him from picking up any points that would have been so important for the Constructors' championship. However, this can do nothing to detract from the joy of such a fantastic victory, obtained here in Shanghai in the face of very stiff opposition. Now, both the titles will be decided in the space of two races. If we look back to where we were after Montreal and to the fact that Michael has now caught up his closest rival and that we are only one point down in the Constructors' classification, it is further confirmation that one should never ever give up!"

Ross Brawn, Technical Director: "It was a fantastic race in which Michael performed exceptionally well. On the rain tyres we were struggling when there was still a lot of water on the track, but we were still able to keep up with the lead group. Then, as the track began to dry, the situation changed in the way we had been expecting, namely in our favour, thanks to the performance of the Bridgestone tyres, which worked very well in these conditions. The team also did an incredible job and all the pit-stops were impeccable. A shame for Felipe: starting from the back of the grid because of the engine change, he was having a great race and could have brought home some important points for the Constructors' classification. All the same, we are very happy and we can be reasonably optimistic as we prepare to tackle the final two races, but we will have to remain concentrated and not leave the slightest detail to chance."

Toyota
Ralf Schumacher (DNF, Engine): "It's been a difficult weekend for us. Given that we were starting from so far down the grid, we knew that today would be hard work and so it proved. In the race we were reasonably competitive but I spent much of the early laps in traffic. So the team took the risk to change to dry tyres before the track was really ready. It was a difficult decision to make but we took the gamble because we were such a long way back. It enabled us to fill up until the end of the race but we lost a lot of time in the first few laps after the stop. The situation gradually improved and ten laps later I even twice set the fastest lap of the race that far. Unfortunately we then had an oil pressure spike so we need to look into that. But we just need to get things right during a weekend and then we can be competitive."

Jarno Trulli (DNF, Engine): "That was a day to forget. Of course it was always going to be difficult starting the race from so far back. We haven't been competitive all weekend in wet conditions. The balance was not too bad on the first stint but we were in a very long queue of traffic. The pit stops came before the ideal time to switch to dry tyres but the team took a gamble because we were so far back and we had nothing to lose. Unfortunately it didn't pay off. It was very hard to keep the car on the road after that and we lost a lot of ground on the rest of the field. To make matters worse I then suffered a problem with the engine's pneumatic pressure and we had to retire. But every day is different so we head to the next race hoping for a better weekend and a change of luck."

Tsutomu Tomita, Team Principal: "Starting from where we were on the grid after our bad luck with the weather and the red flags yesterday, we knew it was going to be hard to make up ground. So we had to be aggressive to try and salvage something from the day. The first part of the race the pace of the car was okay, but we were blocked behind Coulthard who was apparently on a different strategy. From then on we had to take a risk to try and catch up otherwise we would have ended up far from the points. We were fuelled quite long for the first stint just to be able to wait for the track to dry out. When we were about to pit the conditions were still not perfect for dry tyres, but still we went for it because it was the only possibility to come away with a good result. It was a risk that did not pay off but we had to try it and I still think it was a good decision. Both drivers performed well but later in the race we had some issues on both cars, Jarno with a pneumatic consumption problem and Ralf with oil pressure so we had to retire both cars. I'm very sorry for the problems to the fans and to the drivers but we will now work hard for a result at Suzuka next week."

Williams-Cosworth
Mark Webber (8th): "I had a reasonable start to the race and I got into the groove okay and started to catch David (Coulthard). Once I had got past, I started to think about when I should change to dry tyres, but the track took a long, long time to dry, so we decided to leave the same tyres on in the first stop, which was the right thing to do. However, I did have a spin and it took an age to get the traction back on the synthetic grass. When we eventually did stop for dry tyres, I had another 360 0 spin but pushed hard to keep the gap from Coulthard behind me right to the end and make sure we finished in the points, which is great for the team."

Nico Rosberg (11th): "It was, without doubt, a difficult day. What messed up my race was not being able to get past Coulthard and I lost a lot of time behind him at the beginning of the race. It was just very difficult and I didn't want to risk too much and compromise the rest of my race. Then when we switched to dry tyres the situation improved, but towards the end of the race it became difficult again with graining on the front tyres. This took me off the dry line occasionally, and it was not easy to hold the car in the wet! I have learnt a lot again today about a new circuit and of course a lot about tyre behaviour under different track conditions."

Sam Michael, Technical Director: "It was good to break the points drought today. Mark drove a great race in the wet and then in the drying conditions. Nico drove well, but he was stuck in traffic after the first stint and it was difficult for him to make any ground. The variable conditions aside, the car has definitely improved both in reliability and performance and we will go to the last two races with a target to score some more points."

Simon Corbyn, Cosworth: "It was good to get both engines to the finish and great to score a point with Mark. Cosworth had no problems during the race and both drivers used the available engine performance to good effect."

Honda
Jenson Button (4th): "I'm really pleased to have finished where I started in 4th position. Initially the car felt really good; I was pulling away from the field well and staying in touch with the cars in front. Then I started to struggle with the rear tyres which were practically bald so I had to come in early for my first pitstop. I had no rear grip and because of that I was losing 3 seconds or more a lap. In the dry there was only one line and from that point I was just in my element really! It was a lot of fun and reminded me of the karting days when I won the European Championships back in 1997. Into the last corner I was in front of Rubens and De La Rosa and I came down the inside of Heidfeld, turned into the corner and when I looked into my mirrors I could see the people behind me were going straight on and into each other. There are a few areas where we are weak which we need to work on, but we are still fired up for our home race in Japan next weekend."

Rubens Barrichello (6th): "My race was OK, although my car was better on the wet tyres than the 'slicks'. It was a real shame that my last lap was ruined and there were some problems with the backmarkers so I lost time and two positions. Heidfeld was forced to make an avoiding manoeuvre in turn 2 but I was there on the track already and we touched, which damaged my front wing. With the resulting loss of front downforce, I lost more time over the remainder of that final lap. There was more confusion at the hairpin, and again Heidfeld and I came together, but I managed to recover to finish the race. 4th and 6th is another good team result. We are looking competitive for our home race next weekend when I hope we can secure another good team result in front of the Japanese crowd."

Gil de Ferran, Sporting Director: "What an exciting race! Although we didn't get the podium we were hoping for, having Jenson and Rubens in the points again is a good result for us considering the unpredictable and difficult conditions. After a good start from both drivers, the first issue we encountered was when Jenson started suffering an imbalance which was costing him a lot of time towards the latter half of his first stint. As a result we brought him in earlier than scheduled to change the tyres. Rubens wasn't suffering with the same issues and we retained the same set of tyres on his first stop. The track was taking a long time to dry out and we just about hit the right time to change to dry tyres when both drivers had to come in for their second stop. From then on, Jenson and Rubens were not only fighting each other but they were also challenging Heidfeld ahead as well as being pursued by De La Rosa. This fight culminated in a very exciting last few laps when it started drizzling with rain and they all shuffled positions. In the end this was a good result for us and hopefully we can go one step further in front of our home crowd in Japan."

Red Bull-Ferrari
David Coulthard (9th): "That was a tough race. At the beginning, my intermediate tyres had quite a lot of graining and I was being passed left, right and centre. I was also heavy on fuel. But as the track dried, the tyres wore down and it all came good so I was very quick at that point. Unfortunately I later had an incident with Massa. Two or three laps before, he'd come down the inside of my car, but I managed to avoid him. He tried the same again, which resulted in us colliding. I'm disappointed as it damaged my car. I lost steering assistance in left hand corners, so it was pulling to the left. I was able to still go quick, but had difficulty braking at the hairpin and ran wide, which allowed Mark to pass. That was us out of the points."

Robert Doornbos (12th): "That was pretty exciting for my first race with Red Bull, but I was hoping for a bit more having started tenth on the grid. It was tight going into Turn one, I touched Kubica's car and lost time when I had to come in the pits to change the front wing. But it was good fun after that. I passed eleven people on the track, which was a good performance on used intermediates. We got the switch right changing to dry tyres, did the job and finished the race. I'm looking forward to the next one."

Christian Horner, Sporting Director: "In very difficult conditions, we got the strategy right for David today. He was on the right tyres at the right time. He was very quick in the middle of the race on worn intermediates and we changed to slicks at the right time to get him out ahead of Massa and Webber. Unfortunately, Massa had a collision with David at the hairpin, which damaged his steering. As a result, David locked up a couple of laps later and lost a place to Mark. Robert was the victim of a first lap incident and had to change his front wing, but after that he drove very well. He was quick on worn intermediates, but lost some time, as did others, after changing to new intermediates at his first pit stop. Once on slicks, he set some very competitive race laps and, apart from the first lap incident, it was a good job by him today."

Sauber-BMW
Nick Heidfeld (7th): "This was the most disappointing race of my career - not only in F1 but in my entire life. Right up to the end I was certain I would be fourth, but then a few backmarkers caused trouble. The first one was Albers, who stayed on the dry line and didn’t let me pass. I had to brake on the wet, almost spun, went on the grass and lost a few seconds. Then Super Aguri Honda driver, Sato, blocked me for almost a lap. He was fighting, although he was a lap behind, and using an advantage he had at this stage of the race due to his Bridgestone tyres. Because of this, the other two Hondas caught me and Albers and Sato were in the way. Barrichello crashed into the back of me and after this I had to be happy to make it to the finish. Before all this happened I was very quick today."

Robert Kubica (13th): "The race was very difficult as already in the first corner I was hit, I think by Robert Doornbos, so I was at the back. After that I was doing a pretty good job, but I didn’t know I was as quick as I was. Then unfortunately I risked putting on grooved tyres too early. It was impossible to drive, and I went off twice on one lap and lost a lot of time. I changed back to intermediates, and re-started behind Giancarlo Fisichella, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso and was keeping up with their pace. However, after this it was game over for me in the race."

Dr. Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director: "This race result is extremely disappointing for us. Nick was clearly on his way to fourth. In the final stages of the race he was slowed by lapped competitors and lost a four second advantage to the cars behind. One of these guys even hit the rear of his car. These incidents are under investigation by the Stewards. Robert was pushed off in the first corner, dropped back to 21st and then caught up in a very impressive way to fifth. At his first stop he asked for dry tyres, we took the risk but it was a mistake. The necessary second tyre stop threw him to the back of the field. Technically both cars ran without problems."

Willy Rampf, Technical Director Chassis: "Both drivers lost ground at the start, but regained positions in the race. We expected a wet track and, therefore, our strategy was for very long first stints. Compared to qualifying, the track was extremely slow to dry. At Robert’s stop after lap 24 we knew it was a high risk to go to grooved tyres, but in agreement with him we did it and it was wrong. The track was still too wet, especially at the pit exit, so the tyres cooled down straight away and lost grip. It was clear we had to change again. For Nick the strategy paid off, as he drove stints one and two on intermediates and gained positions. He was fourth when the last lap started, therefore, the disappointment is enormous that he only finished seventh with a damaged car after the incidents on this lap."

Toro Rosso-Cosworth
Vitantonio Liuzzi (10th): "Overall, quite a good race as P10 is pretty much what we could have expected from what we saw on Saturday, when we saw we had good pace and hoped we could fight for points today. But the fact the track dried up did not suit us so well as the bigger teams had much better pace in these conditions. I was expecting us as a team to have a better day as we were lying 8 and 10 after the start, but then I had problems with my rear tyres as I was on a one stop strategy and so had a heavy fuel load. But we called the pit stop at just the right time which was good, but still no points today. Now, I'm looking forward to Suzuka."

Scott Speed (15th): "The car was pretty good at the beginning and I got by some cars. Then I picked up some understeer, but it was looking good as I knew that on a two stop strategy and I knew the track would take a long time to be ready for dries. Then I came in and took on new intermediates and the car felt horrible and I was losing three seconds, as with all the new tread on the tyres we didn't have enough grip. After the next stop for dry weather tyres, I struggled a bit for a while, but then it was pretty good towards the end."

Gerhard Berger, Team Principal: "Tenth place for Tonio is not exactly reason to have a party but it is an okay result and nothing to be disappointed about. Both guys made a good start in the wet, making up some places. Tonio had what we can call his "usual" spin, but otherwise everything went fine. His pit stop was well timed and congratulations to the team for getting him at just the right time to switch to dry tyres. We were the first to catch that precise moment. As for Scott, he didn't get his tyres working and I'm not sure why at this moment."

Super Aguri-Honda
Takuma Sato (14th): "It was a fantastic result for us really and indeed it was a truly exciting race in incredibly difficult conditions for everybody. I did a lot of communication throughout the race with my engineer and I think that we chose the right tyre at the right time. At the beginning of the race I got held up, but when I got clear air I was then able to push really hard. At one stage we had a small gearbox related problem, but we were able to fix it quickly. I think that this was a great team effort and it was so important for us to have a good race here in China so that we could carry our good momentum on to Suzuka."

Sakon Yamamoto (17th): "It was a really tough race for me because the track and weather conditions were constantly changing. We made a decision to change to slick tyres too early one time and I found the car difficult to handle, but after that I pushed hard for the rest of the race. This was my first F1 finish and it feels brilliant. I would like to thank everyone who has always supported me and, of course, the SAF1 Team boys, engineers and everyone at the factory. I am now looking forward to returning to Suzuka with good motivation from my race in China."

Aguri Suzuki, Team Principal: "I am very happy because we have once again achieved a two-car finish and Sakon has finished his first F1 race. Taku's lap time was very good and he drove a solid race in difficult conditions. The Chinese Grand Prix was very important to the team as it is just before we travel to Suzuka. Our car has shown reliability here, which is extremely important and we have had a very good race today so I am very happy indeed."
