Populer romanlarin Amerikali yazari Harold Robbins’in dogum yildonumu (21 Mayis 1916)
Firtinanin sekizinci gunuydu. Mustafa kefiyesiyle yuzunu iyice orterek kervanbasi Fuat'in cadirina dogru zorlukla ilerlemeye calisti. Yasli adam, cadira girmeden once durdu, genzine dolan kum tanelerinden kurtulmak icin kendini zorlayarak, tukurmeye calisti. Ama agzi islanmamisti bile, sadece kumun puturlu kurulugunu hissediyordu. Fuat, titrek aleviyle karanlikta golgeler olusturan yag kandilinin durdugu masanin yanindaki koltugundan deve surucusune sessizce bakti. Fedai

“It was the eighth day of the storm. There had never been a storm like this one before. Not even in the memory of old Mustapha, the camel keeper, who was himself an old man when all the others in the caravan were boys.Holding his ghutra close to his face, he made his way laboriously toward the tent of Fouad, the caravan master, pausing every few moments to peer through the narrow cloth slits, to make sure he did not lose his bearings and wander away from the tiny shelter of the oasis out into the ripping, swirling sand of the open desert. Each time he stopped, the grains of sand tore into his face like so many shotgun pellets. He hawked and summoned up his spit to clear his throat before he entered the small tent. But there was no moisture, only the grainy dryness of the sand.Fouad looked up at the camel keeper from his chair next to the small table on which the oil lamp flickered, lending only shadows in the darkness. He did not speak. A giant of a man, he was not much given to words.”

Amerikali roman yazari Eleanor Emily Hodgman Porter’inolum yildonumu (21 Mayis 1920)
"Bir baba, bir sabah annesinin odun sandiginiı doldurmayi reddeden ogluna 'Tom' dedi. 'Senin, gidip annene odun getirmekten mutluluk duyacagini biliyorum.' Tom bir kelime bile söylemeden gitti. Nicin?
Iyilik bulacaginizi bilirseniz, iyilige kavusursunuz. Oglunuz Tom'a odun sandigini doldurmaktan memnun olacagini bildiginizi soyleyin. Goreceksiniz ilgi ve istekle o, ise baslayacaktir. Rahip elindeki dergiyi birakip basini kaldirdi.

"A father one day said to his son, Tom, who, he knew, had refused to fill his mother's woodbox that morning: 'Tom, I'm sure you'll be glad to go and bring in some wood for your mother.' And without a word Tom went. Why? Just because his father showed so plainly that he expected him to do the right thing. Suppose he had said: 'Tom, I overheard what you said to your mother this morning, and I'm ashamed of you. Go at once and fill that woodbox!' I'll warrant that woodbox, would be empty yet, so far as Tom was concerned!"
On and on read the minister--a word here, a line there, a paragraph somewhere else:
"What men and women need is encouragement. Their natural resisting powers should be strengthened, not weakened. Instead of always harping on a man's faults, tell him of his virtues. Try to pull him out of his rut of bad habits. Hold up to him his better self, his real self that can dare and do and win out! The influence of a beautiful, helpful, hopeful character is contagious, and may revolutionize a whole town. People radiate what is in their minds and in their hearts. If a man feels kindly and obliging, his neighbors will feel that way, too, before long. But if he scolds and scowls and criticizes--his neighbors will return scowl for scowl, and add interest! When you look for the bad, expecting it, you will get it. When you know you will find the good--you will get that. Tell your son Tom you know he'll be glad to fill that woodbox--then watch him start, alert and interested!" The minister dropped the paper and lifted his chin. In a moment he was on his feet, tramping the narrow room back and forth, back and forth. Later, some time later, he drew a long breath, and dropped himself in the chair at his desk.

Ask ugruna – kafatasini acar

Bir tilsimin

Dun gece dusumde
korkunun sona erdigini
gordum; tozlar, sular,
kadinlarla erkekler
birlikte geldiler yeniden
ve her sey sessizlik icindeydi
soluk ay isiginda.
Boyle bir sabrın zafer sarkisi
guluyor, guluyorlar bana
ve gunler, yeryuzunun
o genis ortusunu cekiyorlar ustume
otlar, agacla ciceklenen
mevsimle kim bilir neden.

“Seven years ago, Valerie had to leave his home in Maryland. Turned out of her grandfather's house, she had raised Tadd, her son, all alone. Now, after seven years, she had returned home for her grandfather's funeral--even though it meant confronting Judd Prescott again. Judd… who didn't know he was Tadd's father. The man was more compellingly attractive than ever--but if Valerie had learned one thing it was to stay away from Judd Prescott. If only Judd would stay away from her!”
