🚨BREAKING UPDATES: ISRAEL HAMAS WAR ESCALATES

Hamas launched UNPRECEDENTED attacks on Israel, entering Israeli territory.

Israel declared a 'STATE OF WAR', first time since 1973

Here's the latest updates as we cover the matter LIVE in the current space:

- The severity of the situation surpasses that of the 2006 war, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the 1973 war.

- Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the citizens of Israel: "Citizens of Israel, we are at war—not an operation, not an escalation, but war."

- Air strikes continue from both sides. Hamas members are currently battling Israeli soldiers in Israeli towns

- Bulldozers have taken down part of the fence between Gaza and Israel, and Palestinian citizens and militants are reportedly entering Israel.

- Reportedly, Palestinian forces are attempting to capture Nekivot, a location situated 9 miles from Gaza.

- In response to the Hamas attacks, Israel has initiated Operation Iron Sword, intending to 'escalate actions' in the Northern Front (Lebanon) and the Gaza Strip.

- Tens of thousands of Israelis are set to be drafted, with 10,000 reservists called up for this operation.

- Tragically, Ofir Liebstein, the head of the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, lost his life during the confrontation with Hamas.

- The Israeli defense minister affirmed:

"Israel will emerge victorious in this war."

- Hezbollah released a statement, extending congratulations to "the resistant Palestinian people and the heroic fighters of the Palestinian factions. This triumphant operation is a decisive response to the ongoing crimes of the occupation and continuous violations against sanctities, honors, and dignities."

Some analysts stated that this statement diverges from their typical practice of simply taking credit for events without mentioning monitoring efforts.

- Hamas has released a statement:

"The priority of the operation is to protect Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to stop the plans of the Zionist occupation that aim to Judaize them and to crush all plans of the Zionist regime to build their alleged Third Temple of Solomon on the ruins of the first mosque for Muslims Al Aqsa or near it."

- Hamas spokesperson Khaled Qadomi has told Al Jazeera that the group's military operation is in response to all the atrocities the Palestinians have faced over the decades.

"We want the international community to stop atrocities in Gaza, against Palestinian people, our holy sites like Al-Aqsa. All these things are the reason behind starting this battle."

Asked whether Hamas had taken Israeli soldiers and civilians hostage, Qadomi replied:

"They are not hostages. They are prisoners of war."

He added that the Israeli settlers are also occupiers and according to international law, they are invaders.

"So the situation today is a war against invaders."

- Israeli News 12 reports that an Israeli minister (unnamed) warns that this might be a distraction before a full-scale war with Lebanon/ Syria up north.

- In retaliation, Israel has launched airstrikes, resulting in the destruction of buildings in Palestine.

- Ynet: Hamas members are currently controlling 3 villages and present in 7. Clashes continue with Israeli Defense Forces.

- JUST IN: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the Palestinian people have their right to defend themselves against the “terror of settlers and occupation troops”.

Abbas chaired an emergency leadership meeting that included civilian and security officials, where he gave instructions to provide protection for Palestinians, WAFA news agency reported
