Walmart is in talks to buy a controlling stake in Turkey’s biggest retailer by sales, in a deal that would value the company at more than $4bn including debt.

The move to acquire Migros from its private equity owners would expand the presence of the world’s largest retailer in emerging markets.

Istanbul-listed Migros has 888 stores throughout *Turkey across all formats: supermarkets, hypermarkets and discount stores.

London-based private equity group BC Partners bought a 51 per cent stake in Migros in 2008 but now owns 80 per cent of the shares. It is in negotiations with Walmart to sell the stake, several people with knowledge of the discussions said.

Walmart, which has not submitted a formal bid, has stepped up its interest in a deal and held meetings with Migros managers in recent days in Turkey, the people said.

At the time of its buyout by BC Partners four years ago, it employed about 14,800 people and also operated stores in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Macedonia and Kyrgyzstan.

After its initial investment in Migros, BC Partners increased its stake to 98 per cent, in a transaction valuing the company at €2bn including debt, according to its website. Last year, the private equity group sold part of its stake in the market.

The private equity group, which recently raised a €6.5bn fund, is in talks with other retailers as it seeks to sell its remaining stake. One of the people said the fund had received “several expressions of interest�.

Typically, private equity firms such as BC Partners hold assets for three to five years before selling them. French supermarket group Carrefour and UK retailer Tesco have also been interested in Migros, the people said.

Carrefour held discussions with BC Partners a few months ago to combine its Turkish operations with Migros, as an alternative to potentially exiting the country, people with knowledge of the talks said. Carrefour is in a ****t-venture with local retailer Sabanci, and the French group said it was reviewing its operations in markets where it did not have a leading position.

Walmart has had a turbulent year in emerging markets. It is facing allegations of bribery in Mexico that sparked an internal inquiry that has spread to Brazil, China and India.

It vowed to slow new store openings in Brazil and China after admitting it had made mistakes and let profitability slip.

The Arkansas-based retailer is being advised by Barclays. JPMorgan is working with BC Partners. Walmart, BC Partners, JPMorgan, Barclays, Carrefour and Tesco all declined to comment.

carrefoursa kiler birlesmesi zamaninda carrefoursada idim..
patron 3.70 den verin dedi kilerleri kimse vermedi ..
sonrasinda birlesmede daha avantajli oldu vermeyenler 5.05 gibi bir degerle carrefoursa ile degistirmislerdi hisselerini.. tabi her iki sirkette yeniden degerlendikten sonra oldu birlesme..

migrosun durumundan dolayi buradaki birlesme orani cok buyuk olabilir...

2 kipaya 1 migros bence fazlasi ile adil...hatta patronu daha zengin yapan bir oran..
