Ingiliz yazar Charlotte Bronte'ye yazdigi mektup:

“ Eger kendi mutlulugunuzu dusunuyorsaniz bu yeteneginizi gelistirirken cok dikkatli olmalisiniz. Edebiyati meslek olarak secmis, hayatini edebiyata adamis ve bu bilincli secimden bir an bile pismanlik duymamis biri olmama ragmen bana basvuran her hevesli delikanliyi bu zorlu yolu secmek konusunda uyarmaya kendimi mecbur hissediyorum. Bir kadinin boyle bir konuda uyariya ihtiyaci yoktur diyeceksiniz; onun icin ayni zorluk soz konusu olamaz. Bir bakima bu dogru, ama tum iyi niyet ve ictenligimle sizi uyarmam gereken bir tehlike var. Edebiyat bir kadin isi olamaz ve olmamalidir. Esas gorevlerine ayirdigi zaman arttikca edebiyata, sadece bir kendini gelistirme ya da bir bos zamanlari degerlendirme araci olarak bile ayiracagi zaman azalacaktir. Bu gorevler henuz sizden beklenmiyor, ama beklenecekleri gun gelip cattiginda unlu olmak icin cok daha az istekli olacaksiniz. Heyecani hayal gucunde aramaniz gerekmeyecek. ”
